I prefer both... 8). That said, landing those 2 would be as good of a 2-man class as we could possibly land.

my only concern is players leaving early.  otherwise, we have a solid eight man rotation, at least, for the next two years after this.  not enough minutes already.  these recruits are more of a nice-to-have than a necessity.  we would be fine if we recruited solid bench players.  again, assuming nobody leaves early.

I tend to disagree.  From what I've seen and heard from people,  Lawrence can be a difference maker.   And we need that second scoring alternative.   

Also, pgs are better when they can develop.  If Rhyseed could spell Branch/Phil for a year, he'll be much more effective as a Soph.

We need more than just role players, and these two certainly would be what the doctor ordered.

 Players are always leaving early, or not arriving, or going elsewhere. It's the nature of the beast.  Can't have enough talent.  I don't want kids that expect to come in here and start right away, no questions asked. They should relish the challenge of competing for playing time.

If either of these kids commits to STJ pretty sure they would be the highest ranked players to commit under Lavin.  Scary when you think of all the other talent we already have on board.

we scored 77 points without our best scorer for much of the first half, and sampson being invisible.  greene and garret are clearly our second and third scorers, with sampson developing into yet another big time scorer.  and, in case anybody hasn't noticed, obebka is rapidly, and i mean rapidly, developing his offensive game.  such a young kid, without as much experience as american players, and a world of upside potential, will be a lottery pick one day.  but your point is well taken...would love to get JL and RJ on board.  but we'll be great either way.

Would be great as fall signing just started.  I'm watching that twitter feed hoping jermaine or blackjesus decides to end it in our favor.  I like Fordham's confidence in both at this juncture.  That's still what I'm hoping Lavin can pull off.

Unless, of course, we change our mindset - that we're now looking for  talent at the level of John Wall, Kyrie Irving, Brandin Knight, Marquis Teague, Brandon Jennings, Tyreke Evans, Derek Rose, Jrue Holiday, OJ Mayo, Austin Rivers  - PG/Combo's who are starting in the NBA by what should be their sophomore college years....

Yes they won a championship but the constant reloading of players has to be exhuasting. Kind of like the Yankees trying to buy their way to a championship. Yes they won in 2009 but the amount of money that has been spent is it worth it? When the Yankees grew there players and then added a player through trades or free agency they went on a tear. The whole point of this is that should St. John's go after Harrison type players and the. Only go after only a few one and done recruits? This is more of a longer questions since we are still rebuilding our rep and tradition.

I think you go after the BEST players you think you have a legitimate chance to land.  Period.   One and done or 5 years doesn't matter.  That works itself out in NEXT years recruiting (or the next, or the next, or the next).    What if UNC had decided not to go after a sure "1 and done" like Tyler Hansbrough"?  Who despite 1st team All America as a freshman, stayed 4 years, and won a National Championship as a senior?

Steve recruites "best players".   Irregardless of how long they might stay, even irregardless of position sometimes.   If they have talent, they will play.   IF that means starting two freshmen PGS (Baron Davis and Earl Watson) in the same backcourt, and MOVING your All AMerican SG to SF (Toby Bailey), so be it.  If it means playing  2 frosh centers  and a frosh PF at  C-PF-SF (Dan Gadzuric, Jerome Moiso, JaRon Rush) - so be it.   And if it means an unranked player stats over a high ranked player (Billy Knight over McD AA Ray Young) - so be it.  Talent is what counts in Lavins eyes.

Agree, and then there will Top ranked kids like Pointer, Amir, Greene that will be here for a few years and make up the talented core of the team.
