Would like to hear more from those who think Branch isn't as good as advertised.

Don't shoot the messenger, only saying what I heard.  :-\

Not shooting the messenger.  Just  want to know what exactly.  Is he turnover prone?  No vision?  Makes bad decisions?  Rattles under pressure?  Can't shoot?

If Branch can handle the ball, manage the offense, and play great D on the opponents best guard, then we will be fine.

Phil Greene deserves as many minutes as anyone on this team.

I think it is pretty obvious that Greene and Harrison minutes will not be affected by anything outside of a missed bus here or there. It would be nice if Branch could play though as we do not have a true point guard. If Branch can play I think you will see a lot of three guard lineups.

3 guards w/ Sampson and Obekpa?   That would be some athletic lineup that's for sure.  Probably wouldn't address our rebounding issues however.  For stretches in games though, I like it.  Pretty sad I've all but ruled out seeing Sanchez .

Also, i think Garret can be just as effective coming off the bench as a starter.

He played like 10 games there, that sample size is not enough to label him as a turnover machine. Sitting a year probably has done him some good in learning the college game.

IMO
Harrison / Greene going to play most of the game.
Judging but last two games Sampson will play just a notch below those two
CO, Jones, Garrett will rotate as the other "big" with Sampson and spell him some minutes.
That leaves Branch, Marco, Pointer and Garrett having to split minutes as third guard/ 3 man

Obviously this gets reshuffled if Sanchez ever becomes eligible

The main thing is that Branch will take some of Harrison's and Greene's minutes and that is a good thing to keep them fresh so we can go out a little more on the defensive end

With that being said the above might be the single funniest / stupidest thing ever posted.

Nah bre, if someone were to post that they would take Geno over Phil Greene... now that would be the single funniest/stupidest thing ever posted on the JJ.

Just sayin is all.

And Branch is gonna be fine. He was pushin Phil like all hell in practice last year. And he gonna bring much need perimeter D. Close the damn lane and all.

Branch has to first get out there and play in a game before anyone will know what we really have with him. I remember hearing in 99-00 that Alpha Bangura was destroying Bootsy Thornton in practice every day.

Yeah, weren't you a moderator over there? You thought Baldi was a voice of reason? If so I am sorry to say that Marco did not actually believe anything he posted.

And if he was the voice of reason why were you part of the brain trust that banned him?

I thought Greene stunk.
He improved a lot and I no longer think he stinks. In fact I now think his pro chances are better than Harrison's. See to quote Rocky Balboa "I guess what I am saying is If I can change, Phil Greene can change, everybody can change but if you still think Marco was a voice of reason during the BEB heyday, than I am not sure you can change". I do not think I took the quote verbatim.

Sandy really kicked our ass down here in the Rockaways, but we are fighting back. Everyday is 1 day closer to normalcy. Thanks to all of you for your prayers and thoughts. My computer is gone as are a lot of things, so its been hard to follow what's going on in the sports world. But I did hear some things last night. Not sure if this is news or not,but Sanchez is waiting on his parents death certificates from the DR to present to NCAA. St Johns will be sporting gray unis shortly. And last but not least, St Johns is next on line to go to the ACC. As it turns out,ESPN pretty much has the final say on conference changes
what do you guys need down there now that would help ?

Sand. Seriously, at high tide the ocean is about 10 feet from our crumbled beach wall. I wouldn't donate to Red Cross either, they are a disgrace. If you would like to give, look up Rockaway Wish on Facebook. They are local, legit and running things down here. Their are a lot of freeloaders from outside of the community taking advantage, it's a shame. Thanks MJ

Marco--glad to see you have your sense of humor and your spirits seem positive,  I have spent a lot of time cleaning up my home in Breezy (over 30 years there) and , like you, I am overwhelmed by devistation but we will be back.  Never knew wet carpets could be that heavy.  What has kept us going is a sense of humor.  It is hard to understand how a refridgerator can float.  Walked down to the water's edge of the beach yesterday and it is as beautiful as ever; hard to believe such damage only 3 weeks ago.  Read a column by Dennis Hamill about one of your neighbors who is a fire Lt. and the things he did for his family and neighbors during the storm, he is a hero but only one of many in the Rockaways where people look out for their the neighbors in a way which makes the community special.  Welcome Back!!

Wanted to add about Branch-

What are people basing this off of?  His ranking?  Rankings are nothing but numbers.  Technically Dom was our highest ranked player last year and we all know the growing pains we have with Dom.

At this point for point guard we don't need some dynamo.  You know who we need?  We need someone like Malik Boothe as a Sr.  Someone steady who can play D and break penetrate a bit.  And I think its safe to assume that Branch is better than Boothe.  So I'm not expecting John Wall, or Marcus Paige or whoever else people with visions of grandeur might have.  Just a steadying influence is all.

And I'd like to think the fact that he chose A&M over schools like Florida, Texas, Baylor, North Carolina, Kansas, Memphis, Arizona, USC, Duke, Maryland, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.  He was named arguably the best defensive PG in his class.  Rivals ranked him as 2nd best perimeter defender above the likes of Kidd-Gilchrest, Brad Beal, Nick Johnson and our own Dom.

*Branch averaged 2.2 TO's per game as a freshman in 10 games for a coach he  originally didn't commit to.  Most players improve in terms of TO numbers.  For reference point Nuri averaged over 4 TO's a game for us.   After 10 games a few years back Hardy looked like garbage.  Went on to write his way into the memories of all STJ fans.

How bout we let the kid play a whole year? Eh?

Hey happy to see u doing good baldi. But I'm gonna have to throw a wrench in one of ur post. Sanchez isn't waiting for his parents death certificate. I hate when people do this but I'm gonna have to do it and say I can't say why he is waiting.  Sorry guys
