We should hire Pecora just to teach rebounding and blocking out.

Do we ever go inside.  We settle for jump shots on every occasion.

If we could keep Obekpa down low on offense instead of handling the ball on the oerimeter, we might have gone in with the lead.

Obekpa should never be 18 feet from the hole trying to pass the ball in traffic to cutters...

I can't see them shooting this poorly in the 2nd half. But as pointed out above everyone on this team is in love with their jumpshot and rarely does anyone drive to the basket in the half court.  Marco is allergic to playing tough.  He won't stick his neck out going for a rebound or a lose ball.  Harrison looks nothing like his early season self.

After the USF loss, the kids come out focused and play monster D

See a score of St Johns 85 Fordham 52

Sampson and Harrison combine for 50 points and Obekpa has 5 blocks

Fordham's season stats page shows they are particularly bad distance shooters - which likely means more drives to the baskets.   Obekpa breaks his 8 block single game record.   :)

Fordam 2-19 from distance, Obekpa at 11 blocks and counting.   Sorry, felt the need to gloat about SOMETHING after how bad my 3 teams played today!

I saw the ucla vs Texas game today.  I think it was uglier than this one.  My lord...

Obekpa resets the SJU single game shot block record with 11.   Now has 49 in 9 games.   At his current rate he'll break Berry's all time single season record of 76 against Rutgers - in his 14th collegiate game.

Chris's 49 blocks leads all D-1 players.   He's now 2nd in D-1 in blocks per game, just behind Kansas's Jeff Withy, who's blocked 45 in 8 games.

A Win is a Win.  Reset and forget it.  Rebounding is still our biggest weakness. There will be days when nothing goes in the hoop.  Defense and rebounding are a necessity to stay in those games.  Lucky for us we were playing Fordham today.

It wasn't pretty, but it doesn't have to be pretty til the post season.  A win is a win.  We need to get back to the way we looked vs South Carolina.  The energy was incredible.  Again, we are really missing a PF.  We can't have our human eraser going after every shot and no PF to "stay home" and rebound.  I think if we aren't going to get Sanchez, we should just de-redshirt Gift.  Laving might not want to do so out of fairness to him, but he could make a big difference this season.  Lavs can just recruit somebody for his spot.  Entire spring to do so.

This team needs the time off between games to prepare a bit more and hunker down.  We are thinking too much out there.  We are much better than Fordham but are plying down to our opponents now.  Need to step it up.  Still good to win.  Lavin should activate Gift whether or not Sanchez gets cleared.  Can't wait for that.

It seems like we need to get a big body - maybe a juco next year who can rebound?

Hopefully we get Lawrence and Jordan, but you gotta think a 3rd ship is going to open up with how horrible
some of these guys have played and not be able to display their worth.

If Orlando gets to play this year that can make a huge difference - hope we get an early Christmas present
from the NCAA.

I'd be shocked if Jones doesn't bolt.  He looks away during team huddles, he knows GG will be playing next year, and his head was filled with visions of stardom early this season by Lavin and many others.  Honestly, we're probably better off if he does.  The JUCO ranks are filled with kids that will go after the ball with reckless abandon play after play.  If Garrett had his body he'd be leading the country in rebounds.

I know he's a freshman, and I know its been 10 games. But I'm shocked at how bad Jones has looked these last few games. His blown dunk was crazy.

The thing that bothers me most about Jones is that it is not about skill.  The kid has both athleticism and skill.  He has the tools to be a very good player.  How many guys can make this midrange jumpers like he can and take off from the FT line?  He's also built like a truck.  He just needs to want it more and go out the and be a killer.  I hate seeing talented kids waste their skill because they don't play with fire.

11 minutes...ZERO rebounds.  How is that possible for a PF?  If the ball doesn't bounce right to him, he doesn't get the rebound. Rewind to the 5 minute mark in the first half when he was inserted.  On defense, Obekpa completely boxes Canty out (rare) and pushes him back from hoop.  Jones, with a clear lane to the basket and his man on the perimeter, takes three slow steps in towards the basket and lets Obekpa fight off his man and secure the rebound (he was fouled by Canty).  Disgusting display.

On offense a minute later Jones, again, has a clear lane to the basket on the Sampson drive after his man went to help...but it wasn't the wide open Jones from five feet away that got the rebound...it was Garrett from 12 feet away that swooped in front of Jones for the board.  Another play Jones was heading back on defense with the shot while Garret again tried to battle 2-3 guys for the board.

Jones watches the game like he expects others to get the rebounds...he acts like he's a SG.  That is our PF!!!!
