Bottom line, we should either see Sanchez or Gift Wednesday.

Hopefully Sanchez is cleared because I'd be surprised if Gift is activated after voluntarily sitting out half the season.  Besides, Lavin is playing for next year - success this year is a bonus.

Possibly, but if we win Wed, we'll be 2-1, and 10-5. NCAA's would be tough, but not out of the question. I'm hoping Gift would want to be a part of that.

Why are saving him? Why don't we just recruit another player

Agree 100%. We are not in a position to red shirt a 6'8 PF, who has contributed for us. I wasn't a fan of how he played in BE games last year, but he did put up 9 and 5 overall, and he could have made some adjustments that really improved his game this summer.

He has talent. He was not very comfortable on the court, but he had several nice games, and moments.

I can think of two possible reasons right off the bat

(1) a 23-year old big body with big east experience is more valuable than a 18 year old PF who hasn't yet grown into his frame, and

(2) there are recruiting ramifications down the road to bringing in a PF/C next year.  We are recruiting no less than 4 local bigs 6'8 or bigger who could be centerpieces of the 2014-15-16 classes.

This said, I prefer to see Gift play this year, too.

It is not fair to GG to ask him to start playing now.

Maybe Lavin could just dust off Jones and see if maybe he can provide something. He raved about him, started him, he looked good first couple games, now he is collecting moth balls. Give him another shot I say!

Be nice if one out 'beat' writers asked him a question.

Agreed.  Just wish Lavin put Jones into more games during the supposed lighter portion of our schedule.  Playing with BE bigs is a tough way to learn the ropes.

I think you have to. He also has to bust his ass in practice and show that he can defend. His man got by him every time. Marco too. No defense, and this team can't afford wide open shots for every player. I think Balamou gets after it on defense, and Garrett has started playing a much more physical game inside. Obekpa and Sampson have to rebound even more. They showed great progress. Still, Obekpa, if he can get better at holding onto it once he brings it down, can be an 8-10 guy.

You won't. Makes more sense to redshirt Gift

Uh, because if you're playing for next season, a 5th year senior trumps about 95% of any frosh you could get?  Even a Harkless can COST you wins (at least early in the season) because of inexperience - games that can be won with a veteren.   Next year will not only be about Dancing, but seeding as well.

And I do believe we will bring in an additional big in the spring.  But we STILL will need the veteren.

Agreed.  It's clear that this program is being set up for next year and beyond.  Gotta hope for the best this year.

Because if Gift plays then he leaves after the year and we can recruit another freshman and continue to be the youngest team in America.
