I miss those guys. I really think those guys embody the true red and white spirit. It really makes me smile when I see all those guys still following the team and showing up to games. There were plenty of tough times with that group but they kept plowing forward.

Love that team. I probably will never see a better Johnnies game live than I saw against Pitt. The picture of them on Selection Sunday was awesome. They deserved that season, so thankful we had Lavin and Dunlap to get them there. If there's one thing you can't knock about Norm it's that he recruited high character guys and all around good people off the court.

This team could use a Brownlee, Burrell, or even an Evans about now.

Agree Dave -they werent the most talented but they were fun. I remember going to a packed garden full of georgetown fans and getting killed. And getting killed by Pitt. ,uconn, and duke. And then 2 years later repaying those bastards. That was a great season.
I left work spent 200 on a single for the big east semis. I was only about 20 feet from dj when he when down. At 30 years old I almost cried. They still almost pulled it out. We owe ny's team a beat down before they leave.

Well those guys spent four years together. And they got really close.  When was the last time we had that many guys spend four years together?

I get a feeling this current group not only love each other, but love coach Lav. That will make them life long ambassadors.

If he stays 4 years he will most likely be St. John's all-time leading scorer when he's done.

I paid $30 to a guy outside and sat 4 or 5 rows behind the Cuse bench.  I, too, was devastated when DJ went down.  What a run we could have had if he didn't get injured.  I also loved that group of guys.

Do you like them more than the current group?

2010-2011 was such a terrific season that I think most on this board feel very fondly about that particular group of players.  The years prior to 2010, of course, was a different story for most of them (many here had particular guys they liked, and others they disliked, and DJ was probably the most popular of the group during his tenure IMO).  But had that group not had the success they did in 2010, I think the feelings of many would be different.  You take a group of guys who spend multiple years together, and then give them a great senior year, and you end up with fond memories.

Prior to his senior season many on the message boards enjoyed posting that DJ was not a big east player - whatever that means.

Tiz -- I know he had a few detractors.  But my recollection is that he received less criticism than any of the other guys b/c of his soph. and jr. seasons.

Haha, DJ was the epitome of a BE player. Tough, smart, talented. He could do everything.

My recollection was that he was criticized less, but was still mocked.  Certainly lots less than Boothe, Evans and others on that team.  Kennedy started his playing career as a 17 year old.  Some people on the boards could not take the losing when they were young.  Of course, they became fans of him when they won in their final season.

would have a shot at the big east record I would presume. Of course who knows where will be playing and where the record will go.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

If we estimate that he averages 21 ppg for the next 3 years at a conservative games played average of 34 games it would give him 2714 points for his career which would shatter Dehere's record of 2494.

That team was important because it brought us back to reveleance. This team is just as important in my opinion because the big east is over. When it disbands if we are good we have a chance to stay revelent. If we are not good when it disbands we will be a mid major forever.

Paris: one of the most unselfish, humble players I ever seen. Put aside his own numbers for the good of the team.

DJ: Enuf said.

Sean: Drive you crazy until he bought in and play to his strengths. Never forget Duke. And one of the funniest bros out there.

JB: Came in soft. Left wit more bruises than y'all know. Straight up decent kid.

Malik: Was not meant to play at this level, yet fought thru all that and was solid at the end. half court at the buzz against UConn. Will be a coach down the line.

Dele: Nice guy.

JBII: Most talented on the team (sorry DH).

DH: A legend fo a year.

Ive been following SJU for over 30 years. That was one of the most enjoyable years to be a fan . The buzz was back. We were excited to have Lavin as our coach. Great recruiting class coming in ,all those wins agaist top 10 teams ,the future looked very bright.
