I take it this is a trick question.

Lou: intransigent but at least not a complete bonehead

Mahoney: don't remember

Fran: can't recall

The Jarvae: worst. coach. ever.

Norm: this space for rent

Lavin: bimbo

So if you are in a bar at closing, I'm guessing I know which one you'd hook up with.

Coach Lou. Didnt make much adjustments, stuck to what he thought was a winnin formula that was good enuf to be a Top 25 program but never good enuf to get over the hump - same way wit recruitin. 'Cept fo that Sweet 16 game against OhioSt in '92 when he surprise evryone and attack the press wit abandon. Thought he also handle his players the right way.

Best coachin in one season: Coach Mahoney in '93. Say what you want, but he got the most out of the least talented STJ squad in some time.

I used to go to Lou's practices and always got a kick out of the cutsie Little Louie image in public.  In reality he was absolutely ferocious and foul mouthed in practice.  There was never any question who the boss was. He was in total control of that team but he had enough sense to treat his stars right. Those were tough, talented  teams and they had respect from the minute they left the locker room.  Overall Lou did more with less than almost any coach I've seen.  But for a bit of open mindedness and creativity he'd be even more of a legend than he turned out to be.  He was head and shoulders over everyone since except perhaps for Fran who had everything but sense and loyalty from those around him.

Lou was the only girl at the dance with a vagina.

Mahoney: 56-58
Fran: 35-24
Jarhead: 68-77
Norm: 81-101
TGAPL: 42-36

If you must know I have a Buck Freeman poster hanging over my bed. Although only because the current Mrs Foad refers to my roger as the Wonder Five.

Always respected and liked Lou but this is a set up of strawmen. At SJU those to be measured against must be Lapchick,Freeman, and McGuire

1) Lou - the never wavering slow down offense and drop back defense could be frustrating; but have come to appreciate his coaching much more in hindsight.  Absolutely no in game adjustments but had a solid plan coming in.  Add +1 if you like sweaters and/or real New York Italians.

2) Fran - Not sure if it was good in game coaching but it sure was animated.  One of the few coaches we've had that I was sorry to see go.  That must count for something.

Was joking with you. Honestly though my dad is only 65 and a retired cop and has never turned a computer on for anything that wasn't work related. And is proud of it. Also doesn't have call waiting and has never had a cell phone, so he might be setting a bad example for me as far as anyone older than 60 with computers.

Wouldn't the highlight be recruiting 13 players who went on to play professional basketball, including three - DJ, CJ, and QR - who played in the NBA and who as a class put SJ in the tournament for the first time in a million years.? Or at the very least, credit him with recruiting Larry Wright.

 He's right below Lapchick.

My bad w/o a doubt, Norm's highlight.

Honestly it is a slippery slope giving a coach credit for what players do after they leave. Does Norm get credit for Ced Jackson? Does Louie get credit for Cain? Fran for Elite 8 team?

Instead of the old Lapchik tourney where we beat up two cream puffs, the Roberts tourney could be where we lose two games by 40

Norm gets credit for recognizing potential in CJ that no one here saw and Fran absolutely gets credit for the Elite 8 team. You can assign credit for Cain whichever way you choose.
