You wouldn't know it by watching the end of regulation, but as a team we really don't turn the ball over that much.   Only 5 in the box score tonight.   Felt like a lot more than that.

Phil has gotten the job done off the ball.   But everybody is going to need to step their game up in this stretch of games we have coming up now.

Phil Greene compliment alert.
I don't feel nervous about Phil with the ball. Even when he was playing the point and doing his circle routine. I def have more confidence with him with the ball than Branch. Greene's problem was he did not advance the ball and could not make decisive moves. Obviously Greene is better at the two, but at end of games if we are just trying to take car of the ball, then I don't have a problem with Greene handling the ball. Now the problem with Greene at the two is he has to make some shots. He has been better the last two games, but you need a two guard to shoot much better. Would like him to mix in a drive every now and again and shoot ft's better as well.

the team is outstanding at keeping the ball...there's no question.

i like greene off the ball.  in fact, i'd like to see him on the bench where he's really off the ball.  he contributes virtually nothing.  he's feeding off one big game at the beginning of the season.  if his hip hurts, sit him.

He did actually drive to the basket last night for a layup which was nice to see

He was way more aggressive off the dribble last night than all season. He had two layups I think but drove to the hoop a few more times and didn't hit.

I think we are on the same page with Greene. I don't think it is a secret I do not think he is good. He did not play terrible, and we won. I am not going to kill him when he plays adequately. I am pretty sure there will be plenty more opportunities to voice my displeasure with him.

I don't think there are a lot of games he played terribly, just a bunch a games where he contributed very little to a win or loss.

Greene gets way too many shots IMO. HiT those open jumpers and I'm ok with that.

Nicknames aside, he really did just dribble around for 25 seconds. That combined with his shooting % 's for the season scream terrible. If you do not agree I am frankly scared by what you would classify as terrible.

Couple things:

First, down the stretch last night Greene wasnt off the ball, he was at the point for a good amount of the time. I know this because I was screaming at my TV for Lavs to put Branch back in. ( Although in fairness, Branch had his second straight subpar game last night, IMHO)

Second, judging Greene's play on how many turnovers he has is a misleading way to look at his game, primarily because he never looks to distribute. If you dribble around in a circle letting the shot clock run down and miss a bad off balance jumper, thats not a turnover but its a bad play. Thas pretty much what Greene does most of the time.

Two plays stick out in my mind last night...in the first half, he came off a high screen, Marco's man dropped off on him, and Marco was as open at the three point line as I can remember all season. Greene never even saw him. Then in the second half or OT, same thing...Branch is on the wing, sets his guy up beautifully by taking him out on the wing then cutting back door. He is WIDE open and Greene has a huge lane between defenders to deliver the ball. Nothing.

I like Greene, flaws and all, and I think the talk of him not being a Big East caliber player is silly. But he was 5-14 shooting last night and had two whole assists in 43 minutes (team high, btw). Lets not act like he silenced the critics with his stellar play last night.

Down the stretch, I would rather have the ball in Greene's hands than Branch.  Seen Branch get stripped too often towards the end of games. Doesnt sense defenders coming from behind sometimes .  It's not the ideal situation, but think its the best we have.

You all need to go back and read Dave's original post.  No turnovers in 43 minutes!  That's a phenominal stat.  Don't try to downplay it by saying he doesn't dish assists while he's leading the team in assists currently and lead last season as well.  It's just silly.  A better basketball mind than ours, Hollywood's, saw fit to give the Square 43 minutes in a hard-fought 5th straight conference win.  He can see the reason for that as can I.

2 turnovers in 7 games handling the ball and playing large mintes!  That is Rock Solid!

Yea your right.  We're all blind.
All those dribbles back and forth from side to side are so risky.  He holds the ball on a string.........

In fairness to Greene, he's better scoring the ball than distributing it. If Branch showed more playmaking consistency, I think we'd be even happier w Greene. He played really well last night all things considered.

It's Branch that I'm worried about. He needs to run the offense w more authority and confidence.

I'm a big fan of branch. Kid has ultra quick hands. Definitely does need to limit the turnovers but I thought one last night was a result of being fouled.

I remember in 1979 when Joel Youngblood led the Mets with 16 homers. Big year. Huge.
