Running Marco off screens

First time I've seen St. John's actually utilize him running baseline screens. It has been puzzling seeing him come into games to run false motion around the perimeter passing the ball.

Great to see him getting open looks. Could be a big addition to our offense going forward.

Drawing definitive conclusions based on small sample size is not in order.

Takes timing and execution by the other 4 players on the court with Marco to make him effective so it is probably a flash in the pan. Maybe next year hopefully.

Not to jump off a cliff, but this is not a team that executes and passes well. I am still trying to figure out what our offensive sets are. That said, we will still win some BE games, when we come up with steals and run outs off blocks. Hard to admit, but our entire offense is premised on our defense. Half court attack against zones and even man to man is anemic at best IMO. Love these guys, but must accept reality.

the only reason he got looks is because the team was LOOKING FOR HIM.  they consciously were making the effort to get him the ball.  in a "normal" game where we're not scrambling, he (will) disappears.

He can't disappear if he moves like he did today and we include him in the offense.  We didn't do anything fancy.  We found Marco on ball reversal and Marco improved his performance quite a bit with shot fakes and changing up his repertoire.  If he was guarded on the 3, he faked, beat his man and nailed the 2.  He even made a nice move to the basket.  He needs to pay with higher energy and speed like he did today and he can be valuable.  It's a positive sign, because personally I didn't think he was capable of upping his game speed to the big east level and doing what he did today.  I hope we see more.  His shot is great looking and can only get better with confidence.

Only looked for him because they would have been embarrassed not to as he was hitting his shots and was open. Still think there is a reluctance to pass him the ball especially by D and PG.

Here is a thought.  Phil got off to hot start and trailed off like he always seems to do.  Instead of running Phil into the ground, trim his minutes and let Marco get burn.

Marco will start next game and deservedly so.

Yea. Keep the ball in his hands. Maybe that way he won't feel like he has to get his shots up. He definitely needs to find his rhythm again.

Someone give me a rundown on how Marco did.. I hate this wasn't a espn3 game and I can't watch the replay. I've been saying I think our best lineup would be with Marco at the 3 and obekpa and Jakarr up front, did c jones get any burn?

Someone give me a rundown on how Marco did.. I hate this wasn't a espn3 game and I can't watch the replay. I've been saying I think our best lineup would be with Marco at the 3 and obekpa and Jakarr up front, did c jones get any burn?

Marco had 12 points and was tied for 2nd leading scorer with Phil Greene.  Harrison was awful.  Georgetown is not the team for him to play against.  Bourgault was 2-6 from 3, but all of them were on the rim and a few more almost rimmed in.  He played a solid game, using his outside shooting ability to draw defender, and either shoot or fake, step and nail 2's.  Not going to say he's the next coming, but he was solid today and was actually a threat out there to do more than just stand and wait for a ball.
