What it means: St. John's picked up an important win, with two tough road games coming up next.

The Red Storm -- coming off a loss at Georgetown, and playing at No. 9 Syracuse and No. 11 Louisville in the next eight days -- defeated Connecticut on Wednesday, 71-65 at Madison Square Garden.

If D’Angelo Harrison’s 0-for-9 shooting on Saturday against Georgetown wasn’t troubling, the St. John’s sophomore’s 1-for-10 start against Connecticut was cause for serious concern. But late in the game, when it counted the most, Harrison delivered a serious dagger to the Huskies.

The preference, always, is the breather, the laugher, the blowout, the clear-the-bench-and-let-the-walk-ons-chuck-it-up special. The preference, always, is to close a team out, slam its kneecaps, break its will, send its spirit back to the state lines before the buses can get there.
