Remaining Schedule
« on: February 07, 2013, 04:12:16 PM »
The Uconn game was a key swing game for us. Now that we're pretty close to the home stretch and things are a little clearer, how does everyone see the rest of the season playing out?

Not earth shattering but I see us losing the next two, Beating USF and Providence and going 1-2 vs Pitt, ND and Marquette. Add one win the big east tournament and that puts us at 19-13 and squarely on the bubble and sweating it out on selection Sunday. 10 big east wins and a likely high strength of schedule are feathers in our cap but my gut says we don't get in. Hope I'm wrong, but 20 is usually the magic number.

So you see it at 3-4. I feel it may be more important who the 3 are.

@ Providence is the game to watch, feels like a trap.

Gotta take it one game at a time but if I had to guess I'd say they shock some people and go 4-3.

USF.....win
ND.......loss
Cuse.....loss
Louisville.....loss
Marquette....loss
Pitt........win/ lose
Prov.........
At worst 1 more win, at best 2 wins if DLo gets it together, and plays like he is capeable of playing. Wish It were more wins but  with the tough teams away, I just don't see it.

If we were to finish like that, we wouldn't deserve the NCAA.

To close out, win the homes; Pitt and Marquette.
On the road; USF, Prov. Maybe steal one in ND, Cuse or Ville.

Thats what a team building an NCAA resume would do.

I agree with the OP.  I see us at 19 wins and the NIT.  Can't see this team beating Cuse or Louisville on the road.

BTW, although game is a long way off, keep in mind Marquette is 2 & 4 on the road. Both Pitt and M'Q at MSG will be tough, but we certainly have a decent chance IMO.

I dont think we have to beat either of them on the road. As long as we beat USF and Providence, we need to go 2-1 instead of 1-2 among ND, Pitt and Marquette.

Considering the most beatable of those three for us is the road game and the other two are at home, I think we have a fighting chance. I know ND is tough at home but they dont get any more athletic at Purcell. As long as they dont go off from three, I think we beat them again. Then we have to steal one against either Pitt ot Marquette, which isnt that farfetched.

I see 3 more wins (Prov, USF, Pitt).  18-12 & 10-8 at reg season conclusion means we are an outer bubble team and need to take a couple in BE tourney to get in.

This is where bad losses to Ashville and San Fran will really hurt

Pretty good time to remember - last year at this point (23 games)  we were 10-13, and 3-8 in conference  (we went 3-6, 2-6 against conference foes the rest of the way).  This year 15-8, 7-4 in conference.

Given this team lost the guy who coached that team to an NBA Head Coaching gig, the best player on that team to an NBA roster as the #15 overall pick, it's top returning rebounder and only returning big to a redshirt year, is playing virutally ALL 1st and 2nd year players, and has yet to get it's top recruit eligible - that's a pretty serious turnaround...

If we finish 10-8, which to me is realistic, where would that put us in the final BE standings? ND has a brutal schedule. With the tie breakers, we could finish top 6 with a 10-8 record. Does anyone believe only five teams in the BE will get a NCAA invite? We need to beat USF and Prov, then 1 from ND, Pit, Marq, Cus, Lou and I think we dance. If that one is ND, then we dance for sure.

5-2 the rest of the way, one win in the BET and a 7 seed in the Dance

Linda, how many wins did you figure us for going into BE play?

I figured 9-9 in conference would be a good season.  Anything more would be very good.

We have six winnable games left.  Syracuse with only 7 players--four either frosh or sophs-- and no killer inside threat is a winnable game to me.  Louisville would be a small miracle on the road.  I would be shocked if we lost to Marquette at home...absolutely shocked.

I think we finish 4-3, giving us an awesome 11-7 Big East record and setting us up for a good chance to win two relatively easy games in the conference tournament.

Remember BE tourney is crazy this year.  4 worst teams play day 1.  So Day 2 you will have relatively easy game.  Then its all match ups

When if ever has an 11-7 big east record not gotten in?
