I do not think Greene played terribly. He can't shoot! That has been proven over the last 2 seasons. 0-7 does not bother me. The only thing that gets me with his shooting is that considering he has shot around 36% overall and 25% from three over two seasons, you would think he would mix in a drive. Again though his shooting doesn't bother me becuase he can't shoot. I know S Florida stinks, but even so I thought we had the best ball movement that we had all season. Greene was not a ball stopper last night and I can't remember him doing his circle thing last night. I would take the way he played last night.

As far as when Branch comes back, I would love to have Greene come of the bench in a rotation with Bourgault and Branch. Not going to happen though. Bourgault minutes will be cut to 5 or 10 minutes a game. BTW how ridiculous, but true was the scouting report on Bourgault on TV last night. Basically Lavin gives him 3 shots to determine how much he plays.

What are you referring to with the TV scouting report?  We didn't sub for 8 minutes in the 1st half.  I actually wondered if it was the longest Marco played without being yanked.  He then picked up cheap foul in 1st half and sat for a good amount late in the 1st.

Marco is listed at 6'6 210...he's tied with Garrett for our second heaviest rebounder behind Obepka (I refuse to count Jones since he doesn't rebound).  He's a big kid and pretty good on the boards...definitely above average.

Unless we are playing a team with a big that's killing us, I think Obekpa should see his minutes drop to 15-20.  I hope Marco continues to be more aggressive, because that 2-3 dribble pass/shot will be there for him all game with his shooting ability.

Agree with 20 or so for Obekpa, but he really does do more than just block shots.  He changes the offensive plans for teams when he's in and Obekpa has become a pretty good rebounder.  He can be used effectively without pplaying the entire game for sure, but he really deters teams from dribble penetration as well, which is key to winning games.

This is purely anectodal, but I never got the sense that Obekpa slowed down or altered a lot of shots for a kid that is such a fantastic shot-blocker.  I remember what Ken Johnson did to us...guys were throwing up shots scared and double and triple pumping, but it seems the plan is to penetrate the lane and take it fearlessly at Obekpa.  The points on the paint have been huge for almost all of our opponents and I am pretty shocked at how relaxed many are in there against Obekpa (and company).

I don't agree.  Teams avoid Obekpa a ton when he is in there.  The only teams that attack Obekpa are the ones with more than one big that can get into Obekpa's chest.  Teams just don't test him a ton.  Obekpa is being more judicious with his shotblocking attempts now, which is actually creating new problems for teams that used to know they could count on him going up every time.  Now Obekpa waits a bit more, gets better position and actually plays better post defense than he was playing early in the season.  He is one player who looks like he has already packed on some muscle.  He leads the nation in blocks for a reason.

They mentioned it twice. Play by play guy said the report on Marco is he gets three shots to determine how much he will play in the game. Last night we jumped out to a big lead and Lavin correctly played the guys on the court as long as he could.

Thanks didn't watch the broadcast.  God I hope that was the announcer making a zany statement and not something he got from Lavin or STJ sports info group.

In answering Dave's question of minute distribution

I would start
Jakarr 30 min
Dom 30 min
Marco 20 min
Dee 30 min
Branch 30 min
That is 140 minutes right there

Greene 20 min
Garrett 20 min (Need his rebounding)
Obekpa 20 min

Balamou and Jones just a few minutes from any of the above to get an extra breather or foul trouble issues

Yes I would try to cut Dee and Jakarr about 5 min a game each but do not have them off floor together

He did say it several times. It makes sense from what we have seen in last 5 games or so.

You're generous Chilleb in mine I was going to give Greene 0.  Other than that I would give Dom a few more and Felix/Jones a few less

LOL

Greene just needs to be slashed down to 20 and play off the ball

He can't be on court without Branch

Harrison can't sit 10 minutes of we are trying to win . Neither can Sampson . Neither can branch.

I found the postgame quotes from Lavin about needing to get Christian and Felix into the Pitt game interesting.

No I'm not buying it. Reduce his pt over a 3 game span to the amount that Felix and jones get and split greenes pt amongst those two and I guarantee there combined fg% will be worlds better and there won't be any 0-7 shooting performances or the other ungodly numbers he's been putting up. I've seen enough, the kid has had 3 maybe 4 good games this year out of 26. No need to move him to the wing he can't shoot. Sit him and insert the other guys and I guarantee they produce more. Just like Marco all hey need is consistent playing time and confidence.

Bourgault needs to be out there. He is our weapon against the zone. Once branch returns, Greene's minutes should decrease, but we must remember that we take the good w the bad in both Greene and Branch.

Greene takes care of the ball, but he doesn't distribute well and he doesn't score consistently. Branch can distribute and score, but there will be turnovers.

I think Greene will be a good player by his senior year, but right now, other guys deserve his minutes.

He played 38 minutes, and didn't record a rebound. He had 3 points. Has anyone ever played 38 minutes for SJ, and produced so little? I don't recall ever seeing it. Even our worst players of all time have done more.

That is what people keep saying. While I agree Greene's most annoying attributes come out when he is playing the point. The problem with him playing off the ball is he can't shoot.

He is a good defender and that is probably his best attribute. He has those games every so often when he does score points. Maybe a simpler approach would do him some good.

Other than Geno, I can't recall another player playing as many minutes as Greene and shooting at such a terrible % over a two year period.

You are right but with Geno was there anyone any better?
