If the team finishes 16-15, I wouldn't be so sure they go to the NIT.  There wasn't a single team in last years NIT with 16 wins or less.  Add a 5 game losing streak, and a finish that included losses in 7 of their last 8 games.  Do they really deserve an invitation if they finish 16-15?  Last year the worst record of any team in the tournament was 17-16 and more than 75% of the field had 20+ wins.  I imagine that if StJ gets the invite with that record it is about fan draw, and MSG.

What fan draw?

Mjm, Moose, you and me.
Sad but true. You can add Tiznow and Ralph and Kranmars who sit with me. lol

I'm not cool enough to roll with Maher's crew.

Moose, Alan Hirsch will also be there. Put the "tennis shoes" away!

Mike, with all your connections is there any chance you can get Sir Dom to sit in 114 tomorrow?

According to this we're #5 seed in NIT

Big East
Likely NIT Bound Right Now: St. John’s Red Storm, Providence Friars
NIT Bubble: None
The Big East is completely cut and dry at this point. Providence and St. John’s have absolutely both done enough to get into the NIT, but neither did enough work at Madison Square Garden to get into the NCAA Tournament. We would be shocked if the NIT Selection Committee left off St. John’s, though there is some grumbling that that could be the case for as badly as Head Coach Steve Lavin’s crew played down the stretch. We’d have a tough time believing it, though.

I would like to see us make the NIT.

Our team needs the practice.

Branch on knee;

“It’s getting better. I practiced without my brace for the first time yesterday.”

On how the team reacted to earning an NIT appearance:

“We all feel great that we get another chance to make it to a championship. The NIT has a lot of great history with St. John’s. It’s another great opportunity for us to get some more games under our belt and finish strong.”

“This year would be the first time in my coaching career where not one player had postseason experience. That’s why I was very clear from the jump that this would be the most challenging season of my career and it has been.”

Lavin says "we have to play through the paint" ... does anyone think that will happen?

Goes to show, it's not the coaching philosophy, it is the execution that is the problem.

I love to see that. That's money he could spent on a hairpiece.

Garrett can't jump anymore.  Its pretty interesting.

Honestly, outside of hustle, he can't do much of anything...if we had to go down a guy to fit a recruit, I would not lose sleep if it was him...he makes at least one bonehead pass per game

Some interesting info in the teams rebounding numbers  (relative to Amir) - Jakarr leads the team in boards.  BUT he alsom plays the most minutes now that D'Lo is out.   How do our rebounders measure up in equal minutes?  Well, the averages "per 35 minutes of play" look like this:

#1  Chris Obekpa, at 8.23 boards (194 in 825 minutes)
#2  Amir Garrett, at  7.44 boards (136 in 640 minutes)
#3  Jakarr Sampson at 7.32 boards (212 in 1,013 minutes)
#4  Dom Pointer, at  7.22 boards (171 in 829 minutes)

Note that all play over 20 minutes a game, so the production values aren't really skewed (like for a guy who's just in at garbage time).

I wish I could be as excited for anything as much as Bill Walton is for this Stanford/SFA game.

UVA and Coach Bennett pride themselves on their defense, they like to play slow grind it out basketball. Live in the DC area so we get wrap ups of all their games in the Post. Often read where Coach Bennett says his team is young and we have to grow to get tougher, even one of his forwards claims that the frosh don't understand yet how physical they have to play to compete in the ACC. Scott is their big scorer, can shot the ball. Lavin not the only Coach using the youth angle, but what do they know they are only Coaches.
