Thon Maker - C - Carlisle HS - Australia

Saw thon all summer on UAA circuit. He's a pro. One and done. Energy level is rediculous. This is what slice does. He recruits. Probably has in's with him from when he was at UK

I could see this happening but it's also a long shot. I've goten really close with Thon over past two years and he's one of my favorite kids. Goes about his business like a pro already and plays with extreme energy. He's put on a lot of muscle to his frame and really focused on playing inside as opposed to the Durant hype which is good in my opinion.

Arizona St. has been on him hard since Bobby Hurley came on board but not much has materialized. I do think there are a lot of question marks surrounding his eligibility status due to him moving around so much which is why he hasn't been heavily recruited.

We've gone after big name guys like this before in the Lavin era, but the biggest difference I see here is he's more of a luxury than a must have. In the past we've put all of our eggs into one basket of a recruit of this caliber only to get burned at the end. Even if he doesn't come here (which I expect), or doesn't qualify we still have our realistic targets for 2016 like Ponds, Ahmed etc. Glad to see things have changed under this staff so far.

Fascinating development--noted a reference to John Lucas.  Wonder if he crossed paths with D'Angelo in Houston when he was working with Lucas.  Could help if we get a real chance of an on campus visit to have him around if the have met.

Brian Merrit was a long time scout and employee of John Lucas. Really good dude and had a good grasp on talent/landscape of grassroots hoops. It was a really good hire by Bobby Hurley. So he's been around Thon for a long time whether it be at NBPA Top 100 camp or various tournaments/camps he's been around and knows Ed Smith + Thon.

It will be interesting to see the rookie (Merrit) go up against the veteran (Slice) for a blue chipper. I'm sure UK, Cuse, KS may all eventually get involved with Thon too once they're in better position to.

Not quite LeBron talent.  A sure fire one and doner.

Would be the best player at St. John's since Walter Berry.

At 7'0"+ he reminds me a lot of Garnett.  A little bit smoother in spots, but Garnett was just a monster...  This kid needs more strength and defensive presence to put it all together.

Visiting ND for football game against v USC next weekend. They had jarret allen in this weekend too.
