Weekends of April 19-21 and 26-28
« on: April 12, 2013, 08:46:10 PM »
These are live recruiting weekends where coaches are allowed to attend AAU events.

Remember last year SJU hosted recruits like Sanchez, Wood and Nolan these weekends and were not on the road.

Be very interesting to see who they watch and where they go.

2014 is big for us.  We will have to replace a lot of significant talent.  Will certainly be a bit of a rebuild.  Need to reel in some big fish.

Based on recent evidence, Lavin LOVES package deals and seeks them out as a means to bring in more than one quality player and have instant chemistry.  For that reason, my bet is the staff pushes hard for Terrell and Abu.  Both want to play together and we could use both with our style of play.  Carrington another kid we are after hard already.

I think he trimmed his list down and dont know if we have a shot with him but would love to get involved with Stanley Johnson of Mater Dei

Johnson trimmed his list and SJU isn't on it doubt he expands it.

I thought Lavin didn't recruit the Massachusetts area that much

Lavin pulled miracles with a short recruiting time with previous classes. I expect studs and top 10 classes in 14 and 15

Don't think any fan can doubt Lav and Co's recruiting prowess after the past few years.  Roster construction, and coaching, especially in-game, is another story.

I just mean he has 3+ years to build relationships with the 14 and 15 classes which means he should crush it

I think he will, no matter who we are or aren't hearing about right now.  Lavin and Chiles are done with 13', and just landed a top 25 kid which is phenomenal.  They have plenty of time now to work on kids for 14'.  One thing I don't doubt is Lavin's ability to recruit.  He'll get it done...

I think the one kid they want to wrap up early is Carrington.

They are in good with him.

Kind of sad we are looking to rebuild after the last two years

Hopefully the "re-build" is after a nice, healthy NCAA tournament run which allows us to taking less recruiting risks. A demonstration that Lavin is capable of taking St. John's to the next level. Meaning, not only do we sign the highest level recruits, but guys that we will not have to worry about qualification/character issues.

Also, (hopefully) having guys like Branch, Greene, Pointer, Felix and Jones into 14-15, eases the transition. It won't be like a couple of years ago when we only had Malik Stithe. We should have guys to weather the departure blows.

I don't see it as rebuilding but hopefully building off a successful year or two

Yeah, we should be like Duke and North Carolina and just reload.  This rebuild stuff is for shi**y and mediocre programs.  Were big time

Can we at least wait to see how things play out before we declare we will be "rebuilding" again in 2 years? I don't think we will be.

Ok...re-loading?  We will certainly lose some talent that is integral.  The key is replacing that talent and folding it in with upperclassmen like Greene, Branch, Pointer etc.

We've been re-building the last two years up this point.  Now we have a deep, talented roster.    MCNPA, you are right - hopefully from here on out it's just re-loading.

Let's be clear.  All teams rebuild.  Nothing is like rebuilding with 12 empty ships though. We won't have to do that type of rebuilding again.  We might need to fill key spots at different positions, but 2014 will be important in establishing our next "base" of talent here at SJU.  We will have some upperclassmen here too that should help the transition.

It wasn't just the 12 scholarships.  It was making St. John's a destination program again as opposed to being a second thought for top rate talented.  Now we have guys like Jordan, Sampson, Harkless coming here.  We missed on Gathers, Lawrence and others - but it is a testament to Lavin and his crew that this top-flight players are considering St. John's.   That's huge my mind.  Success breeds success.  It is all our hopes that we are able to reload and advance from here rather than have to build back up to this point.
