How will Magic NBA '13 Draft impact Harkless?
« on: May 21, 2013, 07:36:14 PM »
So what impact do you guys think this year's draft will have on Moe?   Can only help right?
Magic should be looking at a top 3 pick- so common sense would dictate he's probably looking at a good center prospect in Noel or a top guard like McLemore, right?

Can't see them taking another forward like Porter or Bennett.

Thoughts?

I Love Bennett, buy he's an undersized 4, not a 3.   Mo can grow into either, but Bennett is going to have to be a 4 I believe.   At center, Vucavich gave them 12 boards and 13 pts as a rook last yea - but Noel's defensive potential, and the possibility of playing PF along SIDE Vuc may be intriguing. Also, while they had relatively solid PG play, both Jameer and Udoh are over 30 - a kid like Trey Burke could sneak into their thinking, even at #2.

Pick at #2. They could really use a guard

I'd trade the pick to the Hawks for their two picks.

This draft is pretty dreadful. I don't see any real impact players at the NBA level. If I'm a young team with a few pieces I'm looking to trade down w/ a veteran playoff team. Get a good player now that doesn't need 3 years to develop and still pick a youngster later in first round.

I think it's weak at the top, but not that weak overall.   A lot of late 1st, and 2nd round guys are going to make it from this group.   With a good chance some of them will be as good or better than the lottery guys.   Even the projected top 5 all have BIG question marks.    Guys like CJ Leslie, Nate Wolters, Erick Green - all have terrific 2nd round value - Tony Snell as well.  Any of them COULD be as good a pro as anyone in the draft....

Really depends on what direction they go.  If they pick a two or a three, that could really hurt Moe's minutes and priority in the organization.  A center or a PG would probably help him.

Doubt picking a SG will really impact Moe.  Most sites refer to Vucecic, Moe and Tobias as the 3 that are constant.  Jameer is trade bait. Affalo is there at the 2 right now.

#2 pick is a tough place.  Trading down seems like a cop out but I would if I could.

Trey Burke is great. IMO he's as good as any point guard that has been drafted over the last few years.

Surely you are not including kyrie Irving then. And not sure if he is as good as lillard either.  He is a phenom. I'd agree if you mean Wall, Kemba, Teague, as of when those guys came out.

I agree though that he is great and should be the magics pick.

Do the magic go Noel if cavs take porter?

I think whether the cavs pick porter or Noel will show you how confident they are that they can get lebron bak after next year...

Completely agree with you.  I don't think there is any top tier talent per se, but I think you are going to get a lot of NBA regulars and depth players in this draft.

Just by watching him I agree, but what no doubters do you have ahead of him in this draft?  I would bet that one of the "riskier" picks will probably end up being better than him, but he's as sure a thing to become a successful borderline all-star in this draft as anyone, IMO.

If ever a draft screamed trade down, this is it.

Problem is, it's unlikely many teams want to give much to trade up...

True. I just don't think there is much difference, talent wise, between say, the 5-10 picks and the 15-20 picks. You may be able to get a veteran, playoff team to trade up to get a missing piece. Like a Kawi Leonard type of player for SA, for example.

Example, would Boston trade a Paul Pierce ( expiring contract?) and the 16 to PHX so Boston could reload with an Anthony Bennett with the 5 and maybe another player or 2?

disclaimer-  totally off top of my head. No idea if this would even work ..cap wise..
