Good call.  This certainly could be a move to help sway him our way.  Chukwu is huge center and in the 14' class.  Would love to bring a big center like him on board.  7'2"and quite mobile.  Also a top 75 player.  It can't hurt to bring in his teammate, even as a walkon.

Chukwu left Trinity and played at Fairfield Prep last year with Ryan Murphy. I know for certain we are not actively pursuing him. UConn and Providence have been very active on this front. Chukwu plays with Ryan Murphy, who is on our 2016 thread. Ryan has been to StJ several times, loves us, but may not be BE level player. We'll see.

Totally, I know that my 5 year old likes kickball because his friend Danny plays. It makes him feel special that he knows someone there.

Sanchez/Bourgsault, Balamou/Obekpa, Sampson/Hooper.  It would really surprise you if Lavin brought kids here who have been friends for a long time?  I'm not saying that it is the case with Chukwu, just that it's a possibility.  I don't know how close he is with Walston.

I actually didn't mean it in terms of a package deal.   I just meant that the staff was likely aware of Walston as a  Junior Starter two years ago, when Chukwu as a soph and we WERE looking at Trinity games.

I don't know either. All I know that is that Marco has rode his friendship w Orlando pretty far.

By announcing Ty Walston as a roster member now, does that make him eligible for the Euro-trip later this summer?

would probably have to pay his own way; non schollie players are not entitled to benefits that are not available to all students

Pretty sure walkons can accompany the teams.  Both Nick Kazemi and David Brow - walkons at UCLA - made UCLAs exhibition trip to China last August - Both played in at least 2 of the 3 games on the tour.   What I'm not clear on is if a walkon has to be already on the team for the preceding season, or if like a stanard incoming scholarship frosh, is included IF enrolled in summer session prior to the trip.

A walk on doesn't have to pay to go a road game.
While this isn't a normal road game its still NCAA approved.

Walkons get everything scholarship athletes do except for the scholarship:  Sneakers, clothing, equipment, meal money, transportation, hotels, etc. are not a problem.

This refers to walkons having to pay for on campus meals at SJU which makes sense as "room and board" is something that's often part of an athletic scholarship which walkons by definition wouldn't receive.  When traveling with the team to road games/tournaments,  walkons get the same meal allowance as everybody else.  Trust me - I know about this.  I used to coach.

I'm not doubting what you know. On the road of course they get same priveledges mthey are part of the team. On campus however sounds like they need to pay up to sit at the Training Table

They get everything the team receives from the basketball program, off or on campus. Meals plans come from the school, not the program.
