AAC vs. Big East
« on: July 01, 2013, 03:15:18 AM »
Which league is better? Which league is in better position going forward?

I believe the Big East hands down, especially after Lou leaves.

I for one, could care less about the AAC. They're just a mish mosh of teams from every where. Not going to be a factor in college basketball. UConn's glory days are behind them also. I wouldn't be surprised if that conference is gone in 5 years or so.

Lou left in like 1992 or something and it definitely made the Big East better.

Uconn has already landed a top 20 kid for 2014. As much as I hate uconn, Ollie is holding his own

ESPN.com’s Brett McMurphy: “UConn official website doesn't know who's in AAC in 2013. Left out UCF, includes Navy, ECU, Tulsa, Tulane.”

Actually I used LOU because its an abbreviation often used to represent the University of Louisville. Similar to STJ/SJU on scoreboards, you would see LOU not LU. It must be that time of the month for you, jst kd oc.

I wouldn't underestimate UConn. When you consider the BE has a more lucrative TV deal, minus the over head the AAC will have with football, we are certainly better positioned going forward with our basketball programs. It's clear both UConn and Cincy wants out, if that should happen, it's not inconceivable that the conference (AAC) could fold.

Love that ESPN put a map out of all the new conferences and had Uconn located in Mass.

Check out deadspin, it's on there.  ESPN took it down.

It's refreshing that we are finally split

UCONN and Cincy will leave eventually and I expect the AAC and Conf USA to merge and possibly take a few A10 schools with them to form a new 16 team mediocre football/basketball conference

I am OK with our 10 members for now but would like to see at least a 12 team (and perhaps a 16 team) basketball conference We have to remember that other Big East sports need members. Right now I think baseball only has St Johns, Nova, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Butler, Creighton, and Xavier. Need at least 8 members if not 10.

Shouldn't be too hard to attract associate members for other sports.  Denver already signed up for Lacrosse I think.

Don't think Xavier has baseball but I could be wrong. And personally I think 10 is perfect number for basketball. Builds rivalries and maintains a a  competitive balance.

I could see possibly adding two more schools. I don't see how we could add six without watering down the league if we stick to our non FB playing BCS profile.

The BE should counter with the release a map to the press with just three stars -- one denoting NYC, one for Syracuse, and one for Montreal, just for a point of reference.

Funny because so many southerners (not replanted northeners) really dislike the north and nyc.

Pat Forde had an article breaking down the impact of the conference moves. He said the AAC is a mess and the big loser in alignment. He liked the new big east a lot but is worried about the logistics of setting up a new conference and how slow they are moving using the amount of time it took to hire an ad as an example.

I think it is a bit of unnecessary worry about setting up our conference.  Most of the member schools have done business like this for years.  Certainly will take some coordination, but I dont think it is all it is being made out to be.  The conference had been. Rumbling for a long time.  I think we finally hve member schools on the same page.  The logistics will work themselves out with a few good hires that know what they are doing.

the ACC Takes Over NYC

yet another smackdown.  at least we know we're closer to the aac, atlantic 10, and conference usa than we are to the acc.  we're hoping for eleven to twenty five finishes as opposed to regularly appearing in the top ten and fighting for championships.
