Rothstein says Sanchez is most skilled

“@JonRothstein: The unsung presence for St. John's next year is Orlando Sanchez. 6-9 F could be Red Storm's most skilled player. Will have an impact. #stjbb”

Think his biggest help to us will be vs a zone defense.  When a big can pass in the zone, open shots will be coming from all over.  Add in the fact he can supposedly shoot, it'll be a huge plus. Brownlee was great in that role and hope Orlando is similar.

Better shooter, passer, and ball handler than Dom was last season. If Dom continues his improvement, we may be better than some realize.

Not that this would be very telling, but I thought, just based on the 12 minutes the team played at the Season Tip-Off event last year, that Sanchez was the best player.

Dom isn't close to being our most skilled IMO. Great grit, motor with really good athleticism and I like him a lot but he lacks skill.

Sanchez will fill that spot at the top of the key in the half court offense. That spot was a major area of concern last year.

My takeaway from that scrimmage was that he was the only slow guy on the floor and looked to be more of a 5 in our system (even though he operates on the perimeter a bit).

Haven't seen him play but up close he's not 6'9".  Closer to Karr than Obekpa.  More3 than 5 it appears but I'm sure he can fill in and make room for Dom.

Sanchez for starters will improve what has been a poor passing team. Imo, will score about ten a game, rebound well and get the ball to folks in right position. Think point forward. Big plus!

Not sure if Obekpa grew, but in the huddles last year, he and Orlando were close to the same size.  Obekpa maybe a shade bigger.  He's taller than jakarr.  I think Orlando is a 3/4 with more ball skill than the typical 4.

When i saw this thread pop up I thought the worst. Orlando transferred , blew his knee out, a little shocked it's not bad news.

HUH? What exactly is Dom skilled in-- he is not a good ball handler or shooter. He can run and jump

Indeed , but defense isn't considered a skill- at least I dont think that is what Rothstein was speaking of.

OK, you and I just have different definitions of the word "skill."  What Rothstein means by it, I don't know.

Love Dom. Think there are middle school players who have more basketball skill then he currently has.

Sir Dom's defensive skills will get him to the league quicker than Jakarr's offensive skills.   The question on both, is how much do they improve their "other side of the ball" skills before leaving college.
