The poll is based on a survey of high and mid-major coaches.

Masiello came in like #7 for mid-majors.

Considering what Lavin came into, he's only pulled in miracle classes.

Based on what? Lavin's recruiting at UCLA was also phenomenal.  He's only gotten started here.  Isn't a poll of their peers a pretty good indicator?

Thanks, this list is of 20 best recruiters I take it. At first glance I thought it was just best coaches.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

The way college hoops has evolved, there HAS to be huge overlap between 20 best recruiters and 20 best overall.   After all - how much actual "coaching" is Calipari doing with 3-5 "one and done" players each year?   Was a time, when you had 4-5 years to develop talent, that recruiting was maybe 25-35% of coaching success.   In todays game, it's easily 80% for the "top" schools.    There are very few "old school throwbacks" like Stevenson and Marshall out there, doing it with actual long term development and COACHING/TEACHING of players.

Just a opinion of a cynical old fan  :)

Desco,  I thought the same thing when i saw izzo.  Always liked watching and following mich st and although they have had a bunch of 5 star guys scattered in like Brandan Dawson, Gary Harris and Adreian Payne off the top of my head, they haven't really had highly ranked classes.  My guess is the coaches voting here aren't only voting based on the best 5 star head hunter but also giving consideration to "who recruits the best for their system". Which is kind of izzo recruiting M.O. Just recruiting the best guys that fit his system and not targeting just the top ten ranked kids. Kind of in direct opposite of the calipari recruiting strategy, in my eyes doesn't make izzo any less of a successful "recruiter" because he still gets who he targets more often than not, just a different way to skin a cat I suppose.  That'd be my guess haha

Excellent point.  Izzo is one of the better talent evaluators out there, and like you said he does a fantastic job of recruiting guys who fit his system well.
No knock on him, obviously his approach works.   But if we're talking about great recruiters, guys who walk into a parents living room and seal the deal' then I'm not sure Izzo is in the top 10.

I don't think izzo has the turnover of other programs so be tends to ha e smaller recruiting classes which will keep them out of the top 10. He lands a 5 star recruit about every other year (7 since 2012)and plenty of 4 star kids. Looks pretty good to me.
