Tuesday's game could be...
« on: February 01, 2014, 05:47:47 PM »
...the game that REALLY tells us how this season goes. We know they are capable of beating anyone in the league. They still have a chance to make something of this season.

Providence is a solid team especially at home.  Tuesday is a payback game, a keep the momentum going game and a set up game for next Sunday against Creighton.

HUGE game Tuesday night.  4-6 is SO much better then 3-7.

I really felt the stretch  of games. Starting with creighton and ending with creighton  with a record of 3-1 could put them back on bubble or right outside of it

Agreed.  I'm not big on these types of things, but this game really could be our season.  At the very least, it makes nearly every other game a must win.  Providence is a tournament team and this is a likely 10 position jump in the RPI, as it is a road game against a top 40 RPI team.

I think we'll win the remaining home games, and I think we'll have a great chance to pay Nova back on the road with a late February game.  The rotation will be set, Jordan will be experienced, and the team will be as cohesive as the are going to get.  Including this game, I love the final ten games on this schedule.

SJU entered today with an RPI of 75...but could go to sleep on 2/9 with an RPI inside 50 with two wins in the next eight days.

After all these games, still drinking the kool aid, I' m adopting the Missouri slogan as
the "Show Me"  state with this team.

Well winning out at home is absolutely IMPERATIVE.  If they want to ultimately make something out of this season they cannot afford to lose at home to anyone of Creighton, DePaul, Butler, Georgetown or Xavier.  Period.  Those have to be givens at this point.  Not all easy mind you but they all need to be wins.  And they way they are playing lately they should win them all at home.

Pretty much every game is a must win if this team wants to make the tournament.

The way they are playing lately is the key.  We are all waiting to see this group maintain this level over a long string of games.  The emergence of Branch and added minutes for Jordan have made them a better team.

I don't care who is left on their schedule.

If they play was well a they have the past three games they move into a top four slot with a strong second half resume and make the real tournament.

Of course it is a big if.

I cant say any longer that coach is full of sh$t when he says we've been improving.   Bc now there's reason to think he's actually right.

But at the same time, I think we're fooling ourselves if we begin to think there's a realistic path to the NCAAs for SJU other than winning the BE tournament.   There's not.   It's asking far too much.

But we're not rolling over, and if anything - dare I say it- they look like they're gelling.   So the games we have left should be enjoyable and mostly close affairs.  Whether we can get it going enough to make a run in the be tourney...that'll be the final question.

IMO the margin of error is 1.  That is as many losses this team can sustain the rest of the regular season. That is a lot to ask for,  but unfortunately that's the situation we are in. Anything more than 1 loss, we prob have to get to finals of big east finals to have a shot to be called on selection Sunday

I just wish we could have played this way at the start of BE play. I think right now we are a tournament caliber team.

I completely agree 212, this season would have a very different feel if we had just pulled out the w's against Depaul and Providence.
Forget the tough loss to Creighton and blowing the lead against Xavier ... it happened, and we were on the road.    But getting the win at Depaul and home against the Friars would've made all the difference in the world.
I hope this team isn't kicking themselves all off-season for those losses, but I fear that might be the case.

The thing that makes no sense to me is that the changes he has made recently are so obvious. That zone defense sucked. why play without a pg? Why play so many players? Tough to gel when coach is handicapping the team

And don't forget Penn State, we've had some tough losses but that one might have been the worst it was in the bag. Close out those very 3 winnable games (Penn St, Providence and DePaul) and all of a sudden were 16-6 and in the driver's seat. The other losses at least made sense.

Finishing the regular season 6-3 won't be easy but I don't think it's out of the question. Then we would have to win 2 games in the Big East Tournament, that would get us to 21-13. We'd probably still fall short but it would at least make it interesting which is more than I expected two weeks ago.

Now things get very interesting.  Big win tonight.  Lost some energy in the second half but still just beat a team who has 1 other loss at home this year and that was by 1 point in double OT to SHU and SJU just handed them a double digit wire to wire loss.  Butler has 4 home losses this year in the League, 3 are in OT and 1 to SJU by 17.  Think about that.

SJU has led in double figures in the second half in everyone of their last 6 games except the Creighton game and we know how close they were to winning that one.

BIG GAME on Sunday.  But enjoy this one.  Like I said this was a flip game and they got it.

Kids are manning up.

This team got going when Jordan finally came around and got his head right and focused.  He's the driver of this bus.....make no mistake.  He will continue to get better.  This game will do wonders for his confidence moving forward..  He did it all.
