Malik Stith did not sign with St. John’s and he’s going to be a must-see point man in this high-major, point guard-free climate. Of the available points here we saw on Day One, Stith topped the list.

So the guy many thought was not good enough for us has powerhouse Texas now interested.

Not saying he doesn't have interest from Texas BUT getting a call and showing high interest are two totally different things.  That being sad I really hope this doesnt come back to bite Norm in the ass.

Post-Grad, Long Island City, N.Y./Bridgton Academy
Stith does an incredible job running a team. This pass-first point guard has a good understanding of when to set up his teammates for scoring chances and when to look for his own offense. Stith knows how to make teammates better and get them the ball on the spots on the floor where they operate the most effectively. When he looks to score himself, Stith uses his quickness to get into the lane. He knows how to get defenders on his hip and dribble past them. He also does a good job changing speeds off the dribble, keeping defenders off balance. Stith can go left, but he prefers to drive to his dominant right hand when he penetrates. He also has enough strength and body control to take contact, adjust in the air, and still finish off hoops in the paint with either his right or left hand. Stith will shoot the jumper off the dribble and will also connect on 3s, but he prefers to get into the lane over shooting from the perimeter. He does a very good job pressuring opposing ball handlers and keeping them in front of him and out of the lane. This quiet assassin rarely shows emotion throughout games and leads his team through his effort and heady play.

He was the MVP of some very big time Prep Tourney last weekend or the one before.

The team needs a point guard, he's originally from New York; maybe when he sees what happens to the coach (whether he stays or not) and to the roster (transfers, though no one is making transfer noises as Larry Wright did or as Avery Patterson did), he might take a look at the school; he supposedly backed out due to uncertainty about the coaching situation.

Hey, I don't know anything about what Stith's considering, I don't know anyone or any media that's following him.  All I know is what was said when he didn't sign in October.

Back at February’s National Prep School Invitational, the 5-11 lead guard gave a list of Rhode Island, St. John’s, Rutgers, South Florida, George Washington and Kentucky.

The Red Storm were a surprise on that list then, considering Stith and St. John’s parted ways before the fall signing period. Stith planned to ride out the prep season and see what interest came his way.

And now, Stith is set to visit St. John’s the weekend of April 18 according to Bridgton head coach Whit Lesure. He’s also said to be considering South Carolina and La Salle.

Head coach Norm Roberts has been the point man in his recruitment and the two have reportedly cleared the air and taken a mature and balanced approach to a situation that tends to go ugly with players and schools breaking commitments.

St. John’s already has one signee from prep school in Omari Lawrence of South Kent (Conn.). They’ll also figure to be mentioned with Lawrence’s running mate at South Kent in Kevin Parrom of the Bronx, but all was quiet on that front Monday considering the Xavier recruit wasn’t even 24 hours removed from hearing about Sean Miller’s leaving for Arizona.

Incoming freshmen Omari Lawrence and Dwight Hardy will help out in the backcourt (Malik Stith has given a verbal, so he should be official on April 15th).
