Agreed SJU.  We haven't lost a step with gift.  We have soooo much depth that while it hurts, it doesn't kill us...

Concern that no one noticed that BU's leading rebounder (averaging 9+ a game and 33 minutes)  Would like to have Chris back for Xavier but this type of injury can't be rushed  might not be back until BE tournament :(

Can't rush it,  but Branch is back which is huge.  In addition, we got minutes from a Hooper, Bourgault amongst others this game.  We have more than enough players to blunt the loss of Obekpa quite a bit.

Can't figure out for the life of me why the heck Sir Dom is guarding Oblockpa in practice?

A move everyone hated works out great now! Thankfully GG redshirted last year

Second thing I thought too.  This Lavin is a freakin genius, isn't he?

Sanchez stepped up tonight with 12 rebounds, but his boxing out wasn't great.   He got away with it because Butler suspended their 6'9 center who was averaging a team best 9.1 rpg.  He can't do that against Nova, because Pinkston and Uchefu will eat him alive.

It would have been great to have Obekpa, because he is our second strongest post defender in terms of not getting moved easily.  It also stinks because the extra 2-3 games could have only helped Obekpa become a better player for March.

The silver lining could be more minutes for Branch and an attitude change for Sanchez and Pointer.  Pointer played some four last night...and I like him there.  He had a season best two offensive rebounds and zero turnovers.

It was good to see Obekpa with a big smile on his face joking around with the coaches before the game. This injury might have broke him if it happened last month.

We are really going to miss him against Nova and Xavier.  Nova is not tall but they can drive very well and hit the offensive glass.  Obekpa has really stepped up his rebounding and he deters players on the interior obviously.  I don't expect to beat NOVA especially with Obekpa out.  More of the concern is Xavier.  He is another big body to guard Stainbrook and his rebounding and shotblocking will also be missed against them.  We don't want Christian driving at will into the paint.

Xavier game worries me more than Nova for Obekpa loss.
Remember who broke the Slice news

For all the talk about the loss of Obekpa's defense, I think we'll miss his offense just as much. After Sheed's development, I'd argue Obekpa becoming a credible threat on O has been the next biggest factor in this run.

I hope Coach waives the policy for CO if he can help out against Xavier

I want Chris to be 100% the next time he steps on the court. If that means sitting out Xavier, then that's ok with me.

To me, larger issue than just CO.....didn't realize threads were a precious resource....will know better for the future....I just haven't been myself lately because Coach hasn't received his contract extension yet

@KieranDarcy: Obekpa will be evaluated again tomorrow at Wells Fargo Arena, prior to Nova game. Lavin sounded cautious. Xavier more likely. #sjubb

Tomorrow we are playing with house $. To me great news is Chris will be back to contend with that Xavier Bar League Big. Need that one. If we steal  the game tomorrow, then wow!

Chris didn't play against Butler and he sat much of Georgetown.  He had two fouls in the first three minutes of the Georgetown first half and sat.  He picked up his third in the very beginning of second half and sat for a long while.

I want him  back, but we shouldn't use him as an excuse.
