@NYPost_Brazille: Full Sampson quote on Obekpa: “He looked fine, he’s not limping or anything. He looked like he’s ready to play tomorrow.” #sjubb

Makes sense;

@NYPost_Brazille: To be clear, Lavin was cautious regarding Obekpa. My guess is he plays Tuesday against Xavier. #sjubb

That's great news. Appears he'll be ready for Xavier.

Roger Rubin ‏@RogRubin 4h

St. John's Lavin: Chris Obekpa (ankle) feels good. Worked out lightly, wanted to practice. Docs OK with that. 'Possible' to play at Nova.

Miracle recovery with Sanchez out

At this point I'd be surprised if he doesn't play.    Sampson and Lavin both indicated it wasn't that severe an injury, now with Sanchez out?   He's going to want to help his team out.    I think it'll be hard to keep him off the court.

No way Obekpa plays because SJU is thin without Sanchez.  In other words Lavin will not risk a kid just because he is short handed nor should he.

Obekpa plays if he is 100% and is cleared by the doctors and Lavin thinks he is ready.

You're kidding right?    "Risk" him?   He's not telling him to play football with a concussion.    He has a sprained ankle.
Could it get worse?  Yea, I'm sure it could.   But if he feels good, and the coaches think he's moving around well-enough, then I'm sure he'll try to contribute tomorrow.

This idea that they/he will wait till he's "100%" is just naive about athletes and sports.   He'll play when his ankle feels good enough to play on.   There's a big difference between being able to play and being 100%.

A sprained ankle isnt terrible for Obekpa's style of play. Ankle injuries are much worse for guards who have to stop/start and change directions all game. He may just have to tolerate a little pain when jumping if hes gonna play

I recall Pearl scoring something like 30 points against the johnnies with a "sprained" ankle.

I believe he was already cleared by the doctors.  Just a matter of making sure things didn't get worse in the AM, and making sure he is comfortable with playing.

Glad Coach is waiving no practice no play rule under the circumstances.   Could be Chris' Willis Reed moment.

Obekpa is going to play.  I'm on my phone so I can't paste the tweet but Keiran D'Arcy from espn.com said Chris told him that directly during pregame.
