Team Leader? Please...
« on: February 26, 2014, 10:22:48 AM »
Disclaimer:  I am not a big fan of Harrison (aka JR) but This is the team.  Also, I know that the team was full of emotion.

I can't even describe my level of disappointment in yesterdays game.   This was as close to a must win as any this season and for the quote-unquote team leader to come up so uninspired is truly sad.  The kid looked like he didn't even want to be out there.  He was hiding in the corner for half the game.  The fact is that he is a streak/volume shooter and although he is a JR Smith clone I'd rather have him miss than the other guys.  I doubt this kid ever scored 4 points in any game in his life.  You get announced last you are the man and he looked like the kid you hide in the corner so he won't get the ball.

I am not comparing talent level here but you think Mullin would have hid?  Berry? Sealy? Artest? Bootsy? Boo Harvey? Hatten?  Even flippin' Omar Cook!

You dig yourself in an 0-5 hole you can't have games like this and unless we win 4 in a row say hello NIT.

Was at the game. Didn't think he hid. I thought he played a good 1st half. Was not one of his better games . Not even a good one.  Disagree with you.  Harrison always wants the ball.
Sat a few rows behind Xavier bench, since so few fans was able to hear coaching staff. They made sure everyone knew where Harrison was on every possiion .

Not yesterday.  If he wants he'll go and get it.  2nd Half you want to find him look in the corner.

He stands around too much. With that said, the offensive scheme is pathetic. Maybe if they had a few dedicated plays and set a few screens for him, he would be motivated to move a little more.

Offensive scheme was fine when we won 8 of 9... Back to being horrible when we lose..

To me, the difference is the players. Look at their shooting percentages.  They go from 60-65% to 25-30%.. And it wasn't just outside shots. Layups, mid range, Corner jumpers hitting the side of the blackboard, hitting the shot clock..

Shocking, coach gets blamed when things are going bad and gets credit when things are good. I wonder if that has ever happened before?
Have to respect people such as myself who question things when they are going well and yet don't overreact when things go poorly.

Sadly I have to get back to my fighting weight because I am in a wedding party in July, so no cookies. Personally I think a 40 year old getting married for a 2nd time should do so quietly. If you couldn't get it right the first time why subject your friends to having to wear a tux in July? If I ever get divorced and re-marry one of those chicks Woody Harrelson keeps banging on True Detective I will do so on a beach somewhere!

Woody's girlfriends on that show are ridiculously hot, especially the first one. His wife is smoking too!  He has a tough life.

July weddings should be casual.  Agreed.

Very smart man Woody, convincing writers to keep putting those scenes in there!

Don't overreact when things go poorly? You were saying you would fire him 10 games ago.

Nope. Go back and read threads. Didn't think SJU would be better off with whoever they would have hired. Don't think he is a good game coach and he tries to reinvent wheel. Great recruiter, (though needs to recruit more skill less athlete going forward) and brings instant credibility to a program that needs it. Bottom line is I am going to criticize things when they bother me, win or lose and if we don't make tourney that is on Lavin, but at end of the day program better with him than w/o. Doesn't mean he is above criticism which is a point most of you have missed.

BTW I think at the height of the Jordan innuendo I might have said if Jordan transfers and we don't make the tourney he should be fired, but I honestly don't think I really believe that. But I am pretty positive that is the only time fired and Lavin have appeared in one of my posts.

wearesju my dear friend, there is absolutely no reason to apologize to this delusional fan base that you wanted the bum gone.  His act is old and tiresome and nobody in the NYC area even cares about the team.  The Giant is still sleeping 4 years later.  He has gotten way to much credit for having a deep team when that couldn't be further from the truth.

If St John's 2nd unit became a team say coached by Lavin they would be the worst team in the country.  RPI #325 or #326 something like that.  They would be 25 point underdogs in Vegas for every game.  These are all facts.

Coach: Lavin
Staff:  Yes Men
Starting 5:
Center- God's Gift Achuiwa
Macho Forward- Orlando Sanchez
Small Forward- Sir Dominic Pointer
Shooting Guard- Max Hooper
Point Guard- Jamal Branch
6th Man- Marc-Antoine Borgault

It would be beat down city night after night after night.  I don't care if Boo or any other clown says this team has depth because it is a bunch of baloney.

Are you a teenager? What's the deal with calling people names that don't agree with you? Your act is getting old IMO.

I agree that Harrison has disappointed in some big spots and he looked completely lost against Xavier. Expected much more from the "leader" of this team in his 3rd season. Also I can't stand Lavin as an in game coach. He is one of the worst by far. After he lost Dunlap this team has been clueless. He needs to hire a good X's and O's in game tactician next year or it will be more of the same. It was so obvious to the most casual fan that Xavier was pushing SJU further and further away from the basket in the 2nd half and Lavin just stood there and had no counter strategy to offset that and get the ball driving to the hoop. Frustrating as hell to watch when a CYO coach could figure out an adjustment to that. This team is way too inconsistent. And Pointer should NEVER EVER EVER bring the ball up court or dribble the ball. His only jobs should be good defense, slashing to the hoop and getting finishes off assists. I blame that on Lavin completely. Pointer is a turnover waiting to happen when dribbling.

Ok Johnny could you please tell us the "adjustment" coach could have made that would have countered what Xavier was doing? Please be as specific as possible, dont forget to also include who would be executing it. Simply saying drive the ball to the basket is like saying just make some three pointers. Thanks.
