If Steve Lavin is no longer with program for next season in short future, I say St. John's work to get Al Skinner on board. Tough cookie who grew up local (Malverne HS), had success at BC with average players. He stresses fundamentals, runs a tight flex to create layups and midrange jump shots, plays man to man defense, all things that would not only benefit the current talent best. Not exactly the up-tempo and flashy style a lot of fans want to see but it's one that's proven. With the athletes he would have the ability to even open up a bit more but one can imagine how well he can build a program with a more prestigious basketball pedigree than BC. Ed Cooley at Providence was under him at BC, and just this year we can see the improvement shown by the Friars in basically the same structures and principles.
Another alternative, Paul Westhead. Not 100% necessarily sold on him, but again he built a solid team at LMU out of a couple studs and a bunch of good role guys. He could come here, be able to recruit kids from the area to play the up-tempo high pressure style that fans like to see. Run and gun and press, athletes certainly here that could do it. Certainly the perimeter shooting would need to improve out of key guys but many players would have certain roles or jobs to perform (ex. Obekpa - block and rebound everything, throw the outlet passes like oranges to start break, Max just get open on line for 3's nothing else, Dom run the front of the press, Jamal/Phil shoot and distribute, etc).
Just thoughts I had, would love to hear others opinions, would love to have in-depth discussion if there are the interested folk!
