FWIW Lavin's  recruiting experience at UCLA  did not prepare him for recruiting at St. John's  Over the years a number of UCLA coaches have recruited  student/athletes who meet the minimum NCAA standards but were rejected by UCLA admissions.Does any one know if St. John's admission exercises this type of power or is it just a question of meeting minimum NCAA as provided by the athletic department.

for those who think JC doesn't have an axe to grind. He wanted the job here and got rebuffed by louie as legend says. I also know the "stories" of Cal telling recruits looie had cancer and was in failing health when he was up against him for a recruit. Dont put anything past that snake oil salesman
