Shamorie Ponds, G, Jefferson HS, NYC - ST JOHN'S

He plays that way in PSAL too. He's very nonchalant out there and I don't really mean that in a bad way. I thought he played like that in high school because he was so much more physically talented than his competition.

The game comes very easy to him.

That next level almost definitely will take him to a major conference. A handful of major players are leading the push in his recruitment.

Ponds doesn’t have a clear timetable in mind and will begin to sort out his list at a later date.

I think it's just a matter of time before he starts getting offers from some blue bloods.  I want this wrapped up.  I can't believe Syracuse isn't all over this kid with how good he is in the 2-3 and that he's originally from upstate.

According to Pollard, St. Johns, Minnesota, Georgia Tech, Seton Hall, Temple and Creighton are after Ponds the hardest at this time. Ponds has already taken unofficial visits to St. Johns, Seton Hall and Temple, but he's looking to take an official visit to Creighton in the future.

"Shamorie wants to make a decision before his senior season," Pollard said. "He wants to put all that stuff behind him so he can focus on his senior year. I expect him to make a commitment in September or October after he takes his official visits."

Ponds played with both the New York Lightning and the New York Panthers in July and while competing in the Peach Jam and Fab 48 there were six schools watching him the most and six schools recruiting him the hardest.

"St. John's, Creighton, Minnesota, South Carolina, Temple, and Georgia Tech are on me the most right now," said Ponds. "Right now I don't have any visits set up."

Ponds talked about a Gopher visit when he was here in May for the EYBL. Will the Gophers see him on campus in the coming months?

"Hopefully, but right now I don't know."

St. John's is the home school and new coach [db]Chris Mullin[/db] has his staff after Ponds hard as well.

"They tell me I am their number one recruit in the class of 2016," said Ponds.
