Poison, your posts on this thread are disgusting and I'm embarrassed we root for the same program.  You honestly wanted Lavin and this UNIVERSITY to withhold that info until after the seeding and then announce to the world right after?  Do you have any idea how dirty that is?  Can you even imagine the backlash that would have created.

Some of you guys are just unreal.  Grow up.  These are student athletes....this is COLLEGE basketball.  How some of you guys can try to blame Lavin for what Obekpa does in his dorm/apartment, is just crazy.  You can't have girls in your room past a certain hour at SJU...was my football coach at SJU responsible for when my gf slept over my dorm?  Of course not.

I would say most people are ticked at Lavin for not properly recruiting players...Let's change it to CO got ticked off and punched a wall and broke his hand and he couldnt play. The issue is  the team doesn't have players to replace him...The team was already trying to stretch other players minutes so he could get a breather or avoid foul trouble.

The lack of recruits might have also created a culture of getting away with crap...CO's attitude from last year, Jordan's attitude from this year. If this team was fully stocked would Jordan have survived this season? Can you imagine if both Jordan and CO were gone?

Roberts was criticized for having a FULL roster graduate all at once. Lavin couldn't even do that...He somehow how one upped Roberts....

CO is a selfish person with zero common sense but we knew parts of that from last year...
SJU and Lavin did do the right thing, BUT this team was never at full strength and just like Lavin's offense we still have no ideal of what the overall "rebuilding" plan for SJU is. When you constantly have these students issues it becomes a you problem and Lavin has a big you problem at the moment.

940 pm game time. Really perfect time. No work!
Nice. At least we will advance until around midnight Friday night!

I'm embarrassed that I root for St.John's. So, we agree.
At least they do one thing well consistantly.

Like I said, it's a matter of opinion. I don't think Obekpa did anything wrong. The NCAA is a disgusting organization. I don't think they deserve an honest drug report. So F them. But hey Lavin can now raise his hand and say, I was short handed, because we did the right thing.

Only we all know that's the REAL lie.

I'm starting to think there is something more to the Obekpa story that has been revealed. Lavin is good for masking the kids personal problems, same as he did for Jordan numerous times. Either way, its a done deal now.

What's a done deal? Obekpa is a pain in the ass. Should he be back no. Since we have no replacement. I wouldn't be shocked to see him again .

Forgive my poor eyesight, but Obekpa wasn't with the guys when they announced our seeding/matchup?

The story is not what Obekpa did, whatever it was, even if it's assault - which it probably isn't. A coach who makes well over a million dollars a year, has no replacement. He stood up and took his bows for his #2 ranked class, and now he's officially ruined their 4 years here. And he's ruined something we've supported since he arrived.

He gets the credit and the blame for all of it. Someone got hurt. It's Lavin's fault. Someone quit. It's Lavin's fault. Someone assaulted another student. It's Lavin's fault. This is his program, and it's time to man up and take responsibility for it, but we know he won't.

Hopefully, this will all be over Saturday morning. He was close to winning the city back, but now he won't, because now everyone tunes in, they'll see St.John's playing Joey Delarosa at center.

Obekpa's suspension is Lavin's dream scenario. If he loses, he has an excuse for failing. If he wins, he's a hero for triumphing over adversity. I wouldn't be surprised if I found out he fed Obekpa hash brownies.

I don't know if anyone brought this up, but could this explain why D'Angelo had a black eye and Felix was out with an eye injury? Makes me think the team may have known what happened right before the Big East Tournament game and I know Balamou is one of Chris's good friends. Probably a huge conspiracy, but they all looked uninterested and pissed off during the Providence game (before being down 17 points).

I was thinking EXACTLY this earlier today.  What if Obekpa, Jordan, and Balamou were all out one night and something happened...and Dee punched Balamou, etc. either later that night or the next day at practice or whatever when he found out... Jordan was out but no transgressions so he just gets benched.  I havent developed it fully but I could totally see the two being tied together.

I do think you both are on to something that happened.  I guess we will hear about it after the sweet 16 game - lol

It's not even worth it anymore. Time to wipe the slate clean. New coach, new AD, new players. time to rid that culture

Better hope St. John's doesnt make one of those patented Steve Lavin unexpected NCAA runs.  Would be shocking if we got by Duke, but if we did, I think the 4/5s are weak and may not even be there in the Sweet 16.

Coach Lavin is going nowhere but StJ. Chris is going nowhere as well unless he wants to star in the Sumatra League league for $25.000 next year.  He has tarnished his image not only with us and our team but with the pros as well. He ain't that good and they ain't risk takers.
BTW, had he been at Syracuse, they would have shut up, covered up, lawyered up, and played ball.   I am happy and proud that we are Catholic, BE, open and honest, and stand on principles.  Coach Lavin is our leader. Sometimes things work out for the student, read D'Angelo, and sometimes it doesn't. Chris hurt himself more than he hurt us. That is sad.

100% agree on the first point: on a straight up moral level, I don't think Obekpa did anything materially wrong, and the NCAA is a corrupt, horrible shitpile that deserves to be burned to the ground.

But the NCAA is also the body that monitors, oversees and punishes institutions not in compliance with their rules, and as much as I love DLo, Dom, Phil and the rest of the guys on this team, I don't want the program to be punished 2 or 3 years down the road because we made pot the hill we want to die on. And I'm mad that Obekpa was selfish enough to know that this was against the rules and ignore them, putting his teammates in the position of having to play their first NCAA tournament without him in the middle.
