With Rhode Island's Danny Hurley signing a new 6-year deal, it's safe to take him off board for St. John's, source told ESPN.

wow so they both did?

guess we're getting no one again

Catholic school--will have to be done by Wednesday or it won't be until after Easter which would be worst thing that could happen for recruiting.

Maybe Mullin likes front office jobs--make him the AD as he would be great at fundraising for the University and wouldn't have to put up with BS of coaching

Maybe Bobby gets involved now that his brother is out.

DePaul has agreed to deal in principle with Dave Leitao, sources told ESPN. He will return to Chicago

Bobby is not going to Chicago.

Perhaps Danny made his deal because he heard Mullin is 99 pct coming.  I'm not gonna start getting worried until our choices are only mas or Cluess.

True...I am afraid about Mullin never coaching before but at least he is a great name with a high IQ, if he brings the right staff he could do well

Bet Pacers fans felt the same way when Larry Bird became their coach.  Certain guys with amazing bball iqs who have been around basketball their entire lives don't need prior experience to succeed at coaching.  They just surround themselves with the right people, are workaholics, and basketball geniuses.  Larry may be on a pantheon level but Mullin is up there when it comes to bball iq, success in all things basketball, workaholic etc.

yeah I mentioned that in a follow up post

there's definitely potential, but it's an unknown...still would obviously be better than a Cluess

I def share some of your concerns dan just have so much faith Mullin will do what needs to to succeed and don't think any other realistic option could energize the fan base as much as him.

Also I know most of these are NBA guys but lots of guys w no coaching experience have succeeded.  Bird, Doc, Kerr, Hoiberg...even our maligned mark Jackson did pretty darn well.

In Chris we Trust.

Would it be such a bad thing to hire a coach who is actually an x an o guy?

That's the first thing I thought when I heard about him signing an extension. Have no inside information but why wouldn't Bobby wait to hear what SJU had to say before signing that extension unless he knows the job is not open. Seemed like he had interest but may be not also.

I dont believe Mullin was interested, so big $ Alumns are going to have to drop a huge nut to get Pitino. Looks like he wants to come. So does Hurley. Masiello is 3rd option I would say. Some great options there,  going to be a great week

There will be clouds in the sky, the sun will be out, and the wind will blow.

Ha. My sources tell me the same. Also, it may or may not rain over the next few weeks.

St. John's should hire Hurley Sr., pay him twice what he is making now and donate the rest to keep St. Anthony's afloat.  Win-win for everybody.

I don't think signing an extension means he's out of the running necessarily.  Didn't someone do the same last year and then jumped jobs?   I mean, it very well might, but it isn't automatic.

Pitino talk ramping up.  I just can't see it.   I would lose my mind, but zero expectations.

Give me Mullin/ Slice combo.  Will reek havoc on NYC/NJ recruiting.   Gotta grab a good xo guy also.  Mullin has enough connects to put together a ridic staff.

Then Danny.. If Danny's out I look to brother Bobby.

Cluess/Massiello last resort.

All these coaches should kick back some money to SJU for getting them extensions!

Maybe this signing is Hurleys way of telling St. John's to make a move asap
