Quinerly has a number of high major Division 1 offers from the likes of Villanova, Seton Hall, Penn State, Tennessee, Cincinnati, and Northwestern, but the very first offer he received was from St. John's.
With his first offer coming from the Red Storm last year, Quinerly says that the fact they saw something in him before anyone else did does hold an important place to him, but where do they stand now and what does he think of St. John's as a program and a coaching staff are questions we posed to him on Saturday night.
"I am looking for a school that has a coach that can develop me and push me to get to where I eventually want to be," Quinerly said on Saturday.
With St. John's head coach Chris Mullin being an NBA Hall of Famer, the thought of playing for someone of that caliber Quinerly said is definitely appealing, with the guard saying he could see that benefitting him in a positive way.
"Absolutely. The experience that Coach Mullin has is huge and that is definitely a reason why I like them," Quinerly added.
The relationship he has built with the coaching staff, especially assistant coach Matt Abdelmassih, has been big as well with Quinerly saying that Abdelmassih has been to Hudson Catholic a number of times and that he feels that he is relatable and a very cool guy.
There are no plans as of yet to visit the St. John's campus again, though Quinerly says he has already been there twice, along with having gone to Madison Square Garden for a number of games as well, but he did admit that he will more than likely be up at the Queens school again sometime before the end of the summer.
