A University has a bar on campus in 2015?  How is that even possible?

I went to the last game there.  It was a doozy.

The bar was there then as well.
You should have went after that game.

I made out all right.  I went out for dinner on that famous "little Italy" like street.

ARTHUR AVE, a number of great places, cant go wrong

Was at the bar as bar and game also. There is no bar or restaurant near, surrounding neighborhood is awful.  Pugslys pizza is a good spot though

Zach B

Chris Mullin expects Felix Balamou to play, doesn't look like Darien Williams or Malik Ellison will. #sjubb

Having Yakwe and Balamou is big for us. Gives us some more athleticism and more punch on defense and offense. Wonder what the story is with Ellison? He's been out for a while with a injury that they originally said wasn't serious.

It does. We need guys who will play tough defense. If we leave Fordham wide open for three, they could beat us. Johnson and Mvouika rebound well for guards, but they don't really get after it on defense. Johnson doesn't want anyone to touch him, and Mvouika doesn't have the foot speed to keep up with a strong athlete.

Balamou, for all of his offensive shortcomings, has always hustled on defense. We need him to set the tone.

One problem with our perimeter defense is too often we collapse on a driver, who then kicks to open shooter. No need to constantly employ help D on penetration if Sima is in the game IMO.

100% agree paultz. I have noticed that multiple times. When a guy gets beat it seems like 4 guys pinch in to help when that's why you have a guy like Sima back there to do. Staying home with your man on the perimeter would help a lot with all these good looks from 3.

My two cents is that it's going to be harder to do with Yakwe next to Sima at times.  Yakwe is such an amazing athlete and a good shot blocker.  Should be easier to guard the perimeter with him and sima on back line.

I'm just happy to have 8 scholarship players as opposed to 6 who just let a D2 team drop 93 points on them. I would think that Mullin will use Yakwe to spell Sima and Jones at first, but I expect that in time, maybe even sooner than later, Yakwe takes significant minutes away from Jones and Alibegovic if he really is the defender that we've been told that he is.

I think Yakwe will take time both on offense and even defense.  His strength right now is in his athleticism, long arms and great motor.  Will need to be patient here, but I think getting him on the court this season will play big dividends down the line.  He's a difficult athlete to deal with on the boards.  If he learns optimal positioning and gets enough court time, I hope to seem him develop nicely.

Fordham could give SJU fits if it goes after them on D, but there is no reason SJU shouldn't absolutely punish Fordham on the glass.  They start three guards and two 6'8 forwards.  Yakwe is twice the athlete either of their bigs are even if it will be his first game.

This is the type of opponent Balamou should dominate.  I expect the pattern of Mullin's team winning the games against even and lesser teams to continue.

Fordham is the softest program in D1. It hasn't mattered who their coach has been. St.John's should always look to use defense to intimidate them. Fordham should be scared to match up with us. If we don't get out on their shooters, they'll hit open shots. They have a player, Jon Severe who is very similar to Durand Johnson. They are both among the softest daintiest players in the country, but if you leave them wide open, they'll hit threes. We gotta disrupt their flow. They haven't seen defense yet. You're right that Balamou is an important part of the game for us tomorrow. We'll need him to set the tone.

I honestly can say I never thought I'd actually read something like this on the board...  Lol

I wish I saw this 10 minutes ago. If you just go, I bet there will be some people outside the arena selling. The usual sloth that make their living off of our passion. Be patient and don't jump at their first suggestion which will be insane.

We still five point dogs?  The last (only) time I saw a game at Fordham, they beat Lavin's NCAA team at the finish.  I'll be there tonight hoping for a much better outcome.
