Of course we need him.  He was slated to be our primary ball handler/PG this year.  And he would be our primary ball handler/PG next year.  Ponds was recruited to play with LoVett, not replace him.  Don't know exactly what's going on with Marcus now.  He seemed to be excited about playing at MSG, was spirited on the bench, and highly spoken of by the other guys on the team.  Don't know how things could have changed so drastically so quickly.  Is he afraid that Rawle's coming and that the backcourt's getting too crowded, or is it a normal case of a freshman away from home for the first time and being homesick?  Guess we'll all know more by Friday, but I wanted him when we were recruiting him, I wanted him when he signed, and I still want to see him in the Garden running with this team.  He's an important piece of what we're building here.

Maybe Mussini is just better than him. I've said all along, starting spot is Mussini's as long as he is here. Gimme Alkins

Maybe he can't sit on bench as a partial qualifier?

He sat there the whole first semester

Not at the MSG games, he sat with Owens behind the bench.

MSG has no room for seats.  Been that way forever.  Or since we hired 900 assistant coaches.

CA is where he sat all first semester with Tariq and Darien

LoVett isn't a bad kid. He's not a dumb kid. He is a pain in the ass. It's why he's been all over the map. On court he'd fit in nicely with this team and was definitely worth the risk when going after him so late in the spring. I've been very consistent in saying I'm not a huge fan of his game. I was hoping structure + maturity would help him harness his natural ability. I still do.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave but his options are so beyond limited outside of St. John's. So while I think he might think grass might be greener it really isn't. He's gonna be 20 yrs old in 2 months, he'd forfeit next year, and wouldn't play his first game till he's almost 22. If he does stay I just hope he buys in and fits in.

Are his options still limited if he's eligible to play at say, Indiana next January? He's not the only kid who think he's a legend in his own time.

I'm not positive of all ncaa eligibility rules. Could be a possibility. He's still forfeiting a half a year then.

Yeah I think that's the case.

Maybe he's not happy we didnt pursue legal action since we were willing to tell anyone that would listen we were going to do so.

I guess waiting a few days is out if the question?
Is it possible he was allowed to sit on the bench while his eligibility was being appealed and not allowed to do so as a non-qualifier after all appeals were exhausted? That timing lines up perfectly with his absence from the bench.

The kid is really good. Hopefully he sticks around.  The notion  that Ellison is even on the same planet as Lovett as a PG is one of the most absurd opinions this board has ever seen.

He's a partial qualifier, not a non qualifier.  Otherwise I agree with you.

I forgot you have so much youtube tape on LoVett to go on. It's amazing he's never missed a shot in 4 years of youtube clips.

It wasn't until seeing him play here and how much better he was than everyone else that I really expressed an opinion on him, but please feel free to fall back on your youtube quip whenever I call you out for something ridiculous. Just remember you saw Smith okay in person a lot and said he wasn't a Big East caliber player.  He did pretty well at Louisville from day one.

So you're basing this on the Red & White scrimmage in November where Durand Johnson scored 32 points?

When I saw Russ Smith he was 160lbs and no one thought he'd be able to compete let alone dominate at the level he did. It's more of a credit to him than a discredit to anyone who scouted him. Regardless I've had no problem admitting I was wrong and have applauded his ascension.

This is not just against Lovett but against a lot of kids who have transferred. You would think if the rumor was clearly out there and you had made up your mind to transfer or if you the rumor was complete bs you would just say it's bs. He seems to be feeding into it with all these tweets. I for one don't get too worked up over the actions of an 18 year old but he's killing some of our fans with this. Does he just love the drama this is causing?

Are you serious, he's killing some of our fans with this? lol. This is a matter of life and death huh?
Well they shouldn't be stressing some 18 year old kid, no matter how good he is. If he wants to go then bye oh well. The German kid will be coming, and maybe Alkins.

Oh and by the way there are way more important things in life then coll. bball. So please dont let this kill you

Maybe this rumor is about the wrong player? Someone on the team who couldn't afford to sit out another full year? No inside info just thinking out loud.

What possible reason could he have. Family "issues" again. What looks bad and always baffles me is why wouldn't a kid want to sit on the bench ( in the stands - whatever) and support his future teammates. Unless he is still undecided or already made up his mind to leave.

Darien Williams should be hitting the books hard. Basketball is not going to be a lucrative career for him.
