Can Amar Alibegovic be a factor?
« on: January 15, 2016, 11:36:15 AM »
I've been really impressed at the transformation of Amar. From last year to this year and beginning of this year till now. He's quicker shooting the ball and very decisive with making decisions. He always gives good energy (even on the bench) and is very talkative. He's improving defensively and isn't fouling at an alarming rate like he once was.

His confidence shooting the rock is very good and I actually don't mind when he puts it up. Guys are starting to realize he can shoot and it's opened up the pump 'n' drive game for him where he's doing a good job of protecting the ball and tucking it into his hip. It's not perfect but its way ahead of where I thought he'd be.

Agreed.  He's been a pleasant surprise.  I still don't think he is (or will ever be) more than a role player on a decent/solid team, but you need guys like that who also bring a great attitude, set a great example, and are great teammates.  And he checks off all those boxes.

to me, biggest surprise this year.  his driving ability has been a revelation and he's showing real leadership qualities.  his rebounding has really improved too, so it looks like he can really learn a lot from this staff.  If he stays on this trajectory he could be a very important piece in an ncaa run as a senior.

I think he has a better shot at becoming a fraction

Appreciate his attitude & hard play, but don't see him getting much time in future if recruiting goes well.

He has a great attitude. He hustles. He is still raw, and the game is simply too fast for him, but if he really is taking the game as seriously as it appears, he will learn how to get position in the paint. He will learn an up and under. He will learn how to recognize what defenses are giving him faster than he does now. By the middle of next season, maybe he can be a guy off the bench that could spell the 3, 4 or 5?

IMO, biggest skill that he needs to learn is how to box out, and go up strong.

For those saying he's a lost cause, consider that he's basically a freshman since he barely got off the bench last year.

Really needs to improve his 3 pt shooting, develop a bit of an inside game, and improve his first step on defense. other then that ...

I see some potential still. I think even if he is recruited over, he will be a solid off the bench guy for the next couple years.

If we are counting on him to be any type of significant contributor in the coming years we are going to be in big trouble. Right now he's the 7th or 8th option on a team that is probably going to go 0-18. I don't see any way Amar can get more than garbage time run with the wings and bigs options we will have next year

I actually like Amar and he has definitely improved but as others have said I don't see him playing very much after this year but he could improve so who knows. I like his hustle and attitude and we could do worse then having Amar as a role player for the next couple years.

If you're looking at him like he's a finished product, then sure, he's a bench warmer. But, he's a sophomore, and he's a 6'10 hustler who can shoot threes and push people around. Granted he's usually called for a foul for doing it, but we're seeing progress now from a hard working kid. We want more kids like this in our program. Continuity gives programs like ours, seniors who will play with poise, and lead by example.

Werdann was made of tissue paper. Hence Wennington.

I have always had an irrational dislike of Wennington as a player. Not sure why.
I agree better than Werdann but while they were together I liked Jeff Allen better
