What dues ST.Jean actually do.

It doesn't see like he is ever recruiting

Wish they would give an assistant coaching spot to a former player like most of the other colleges do.

You have to be messing around. Maybe you think he is over his head, but the guy coaches his ass off.

It doesn't seem like he is ever recruiting because he is in fact never recruiting. Hes a coach for the team not a recruiter, hes an x's and o's guy and you can see during the game how into it he is. Have no issue with him whatsoever. The talent just isn't there this year, we will see what he is made of in the seasons to come. Everyone who I have spoken to about him think he has great potential and is a future head coach, he knows the game.

Can't have all recruiters, need balance on coaching staff. Supposed to be very knowledgable.

The former player got the head coach gig so the quota is filled

I spent some time with St. Jean in July out on the road recruiting. He was at All-America camp and it's where he found Mitch Lightfoot who was his recruit.

I would just like him to get involve with recruiting

He has a lot of energy maybe he could take Chris place when Chris decides to retire or leave

That's why he should get more involve with recruiting right now

I don't think he is allowed to in his position. I may be wrong but I think Matt, Slice and Mullin are the only ones allowed to recruit.

That is false. NCAA changed the rules a few years ago and now allows all 4 coaches on the road.

It's his first year at the D-1 level, so it is very possible Chris & Co., who need to make BIG inroads in recruiting, want Greg focusing more on the coaching, since that's his forte, to make up for Slice and Matt perhaps having to do even more recruiting than they normally would in season (perhaps, I dont know), to make up for not having developed relationships for 3-4 years with the kids we are trying to pursue.  Once the season is over, they will bring Greg along recruiting wise.  WAYYY too early to suggest he isnt getting enough experience.  He came on very late as is.

Obviously not the same, but my brother was hired as an assistant coach at a D3 school in September...they have him focusing least on recruiting and most on game prep, practices, coaching, etc. for same reasons - its less familiar to him and more slowly bringing him along on that side, while bringing him along much quicker in the coaching/practice side.  I dont think the approach is unusual.

St. Jean is highly regarded and will not last more than 3-4 years without a promotion if we have any success and he can maintain his composure -- which can be an issue at times, but he's young.
