Yakwe & Sima will both be top level BE players in two years.
Agee with that. Also on mussini- agree with poision- but he is a much better athlete then hooper. The kid is also really smart. I think he will stay in the rotation and hit some big shots the next few years. He is not a great defender but he will battle. Max hooper isn't fair. I hope a role is found for him.
Ellison- think he is recruited over.

I have said before that the player that Freddy most reminds me of is another "Italian" senior at Nova.  When he plays his more normal position as the off guard, he will be more effective.  With a good PG, he will be fun for us and annoying for opposition fans.

How does Freddy remind you of Arch outside being Italian? Arch is a point guard, and a 2 guard. Mussini is neither.

Voted for Yakwe, to me the logical choice.  Ellison could be a big surprise, athletic, can penetrate and has a good touch.....needs to learn how to play, particularly how to make the right decision

What do you mean by good touch? I don't follow.

SHooting touch from the perimeter, just needs to be selective, not drift on his shot etc

If Yakwe ever gets some good coaching he can be a beast in 2 years. I think next year is his coming out party and he's All Big East by junior year. I think Sima is a close second but I think he needs more time to fill out his body and become more aggressive.  Mussini will be a very good 4 year player for us. Ellison is 4th and I hope he improves because he's just way too raw and not refined at this point.

This. Great post

Sima because he has such a great impact on both ends of the floor. Yakwe is a tremendous athlete but I need to see him develop that mid range game. I think he can and will do it but I think Sima is going to be the best all around player from this class. I think Sima and yakwe will be very good next year and scary good as a combo upfront two years from now if they stay healthy and keep working.

Both Sima and Yakwe can run like deer.  Wait until they're playing with LoVett and Ponds, who will get them the ball in the open court for killer dunks.  The aircraft carrier bigs that some on this board covet will be left breathing hard at midcourt.  As we saw last year with Xavier's Stainbrook, speed and athleticism can neutralize bulk.  Wait until we have the talent to play the pro-style game that CM wants to play.  It's going to be a lot of fun, for them and for us.

Plus 1, except that I would flip flop Sima and Yawke, though that is splitting hairs.  Sima will be a elite rim protector by year 3, as well as a very good low post scoring option.  And I think he will be solid in both respects next year.

Yawke is already a defensive menace - imagine what he does with growth, added strength, and skill improvement.  He will cause havoc on the glass, be a threat next year in transition with guards who can get him the ball, and even better once he develops that 12-15 foot and in game, whether in isolation on the high post against a zone or by attacking the rim in pick and pop situations.

Mussini is getting exposed because he isn't ready to play PG at his level.  With him spending most the time off the ball, and playing less minutes, he will be that much more productive.  Yes, I think we are a long way from seeing him as a solid defensive player.  But offensively he will be able to contribute as a shooter next year, whether running off screens against man, in transition, and busting zones.

I know Ellison has been VERY up and down and is very raw.  But I like his size and athleticism.  I think he will be a good player when its all said and done.  Again, he will be a guy who will benefit from playing with better offensive players.  And programs needs kids like that to develop from not playing (which he wouldn't this year on a good team), to role players/minor contributors (what I see from him next year), to perhaps becoming more of a focal point when he is a junior/seniors.

Even as a freshman, Archie could handle running the point in the Big East.  The frosh Archie was bigger, more athletic, quicker and stronger than Mussini.  They both can shoot, and that is where the comparison ends.

To me, the upside for Mussini is to be one of those sweet-shooting, crafty, competitive, smallish guards who usually plays on the mid major level and usually gives big conference teams fits when he develops as a junior/seniors.  How many of those guys have killed us and others over the years, with this board saying we wished we had them?  He is not Max Hooper; he's already better than that.

Yakwe & Sima will both be top level BE players in two years.

While Freddy will be more at ease at the SG position, there are similarities in that they shoot the 3 ball well; both extremely accurate from FT line an would want the ball in either's hands in last 2 minutes when opposition is fouling to get ball back.  There is 3 years more growth I Archie and he is surrounded by better players which eases it for him, a luxury Freddy does not have yet,  Nova looks to Archie for the critical 3pt which is something we will be doing as this class grows.  The bottom line is look at Archie's surrounding compliment and them look at what has been thrust in Freddy's lap as a 1st year.  He is not a SG because he has not had the opportunity; Archie had a much easier first year because of those around him.

Sima.

At this point Jelly is a defensive specialist only.  Albeit a very promising and athletic one.

He has a very undeveloped offensive arsenal.  He's shooting 38% from the field; 48% from the line; and has a 3 to 1 assist/to ratio in the wrong direction.

He has little chance of scoring from deeper than 5 feet out at his juncture.  He is a great shot blocker and dunker.

I agree . I believe Sima has had a bigger impact than Yakwe and has a higher upside, because he is 6 11 and has a better offensive game. That said. I am looking forward to Yakwes play in the future. Can you imagine how many blocks we are going to have when Sima and Yakwe play together?

Unless Mussini is about to shoot the ball, I don't want the ball in his hands. Arch is a point guard, and he's a point guard because he was smart enough to know that if you want to be a basketball player in any professional league worth talking about having only one skill isn't going to get you there. I hope that he embarrasses Mussini on Sunday that it sinks in, and he realizes that he has a ton of work to do this summer. More than any of our freshman, actually.

Max Hooper is a great comparison. Max can't dribble or get by anyone just as well as Mussini can't.

Sheesh....Do you really hope Mussini gets embarrassed and that he doesn't believe he needs to put in more work this summer to get better? I guess you think his English is so poor he wouldn't understand all that Mullin would be trying to help him with.

http://www.rumbleinthegarden.com/2016/1/28/10862176/chris-mullin-raves-about-federico-mussini-and-his-work-ethic

"He's been great from day one," Mullin said about Mussini during the Big East coaches conference call on Thursday. "He's a great worker, tremendous teammate and he has a high basketball IQ. He's had some really good games and some tough games, but no matter what goes on he comes to work hard and he's very diligent.

"He's going to be very successful throughout his career at St. John's. He is (currently) handling big minutes, probably too many, but in the long run it will be good experience for him."

What I hope is that after this season is over he realizes that Arch is the standard that he should be comparing himself to. You want to play pro ball? You can't be a one trick pony. The fact that he was even considering playing pro ball before had the skill to play a position at an amateur level shows that there is a serious amount of learning needed here.

Totally different players. Mussini has much more to his game than Hooper.  Don't understand the hate on Mussini, honestly. He'll be a good player off the ball. I expect him to be a big part of the long term solution

Freddy has a job when ever he wants it in the Italian professional league.  I also think you are wrong to want any Redmen player to be embarrassed-it might happen-but it is not something I would hope to happen.  And if does not happen that Freddy is embarrassed on Sunday Then using your logic Archie should hang it up as he is on a vastly superior team as a full time 4 year player versus a player with like 20 games under his belt and considerably less support playing out of position.

How does Freddy remind you of Arch outside being Italian? Arch is a point guard, and a 2 guard. Mussini is neither.
