Honestly when I first found out about him possibly leaving I wasn't angry or anything. Moving Richmond up would be a disaster. I didn't post that because I didn't want to argue. Real question, are 2 recruiters 1 to many? Can either slice or Matt coach basketball? I know Slice's record at Manhattan was not good, how did team play?

Maybe you should send your resume in with a cover letter explaining how hall of famer Mitch Richmond is a disaster and how you are an expert at yelling encouragement at your middle school players with the result that they have reached several CYO championship final games in a row. I'd hurry though as I hear Marillac is already in line at the post office.

Contacted someone who is very close to Slice regarding the rumors.  Here's what I got back:
"Haven't heard that but highly doubt it...5 year deal and one of the highest paid assistants in the game"

So it's confirmed: he's gone.

This is a disaster, because you can't close the door once the horses have left barn and crossed the bridge over the spilt milk. This is in fact the most catastrophic sports news I've heard since Lou Alcindor snubbed Joe Lapchick and went to UCLA, which defection was a blow from which this basketball program and Lapchick's hand picked successor Lou Carnesecca never recovered. Absolutely devastating. Not only does this prove beyond a shadow of doubt that Rohrssen is a disloyal snake in the grass but it exposes Chris Mullin as a fraud who should never have been hired because he has no experience at basketball.

Most people this coaching is easy because so many successful coaches are completely stupid lunkheads, neanderthals like Bob Knight and Jim Boeheim and Bob Huggins and Adolph Rupp, who talk about unicorns and feather dusters and magic carpet rides to Costco to buy sugar that they share in an improvised orgy of gluttonous delights. But what most people don't understand is that coaching involves very difficult tasks such as drawing Xs and Os on a chalk board and clapping your hands, which is why only a small percentage of the creme de la creme of gym majors even attempt it.

With Rohrssen gone I don't know where that leaves us. In the first place the public relations nightmare when this hits the front page of the New York Times and Le Monde will take years to overcome. In the second place, who knows which recruits and other staff members will be next. In the third place, we will need to replace him. I'd recommend Dan Matic or someone else who once nodded to Dave in the hallway, as long as it is not with anyone who is in the basketball hall of fame, which that would be a disaster. My own recommendation for an X and O guy would be Johnny Beauregard, current world Tic Tac Toe champion, but that might be too much to expect. Whoever they choose though I hope it is someone who is good at clapping his hands and yelling encouragement to the players. If not, this whole program might as well fold up its tent and go home. Because when the going gets tough people who live in glass houses should be consistent and wear wooden spectacles unless they are in rome doing what romans do because there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Where there's smoke there's usually fire.  Hopefully this does not mean he's leaving.  But it does mean there is bad feeling somewhere on the staff.  Losing Rawle was the killer.  Demoralizing.  Hope staff and program can recover.  The new coach recruiting  window closes very very fast these days.  That's why Willard had to cheat like he did.

Are you really serious with this?  Can you be any more melodramatic than "losing Rawle was the killer"  "Hope the staff and program can recover".  Yeah, worst thing that has happened to this program over the last 30 or so years is losing out on some recruit!!!

It's great that you're there to rip on someone after they post something you disagree with. That, and everything else you contribute, such as, oh wait.

True, good point.  I have yet to master you're level of contribution to this board, but you have to admit, you set a high bar when it comes to the bigotry, ignorance and vitriol of your "contributions".  That being said, I promise I will keep working on it and make sure that I aspire to live up to your lofty standards.

Since July of 2009. You have written almost 3000 posts mocking previous coaches and players. Now because you finally like the coach. You are outraged because some have the audacity to question the current staff's competence after the worst season in school history.

Actually that's not true. The first 700 or so of those were defending Norm and then there were probably another 500 mocking posters who annoyed me in general. In very few of them did I mock players, except Phil Greene for being an over rated one dimensional nothing burger and Chris Obekpa because of his shorts and psychotic grin, that was maybe 200 total. A large portion of those remaining, maybe 500, did mock Steve Lavin, but only because he's one of the worst coaches who ever lived and a worse human being than Richard Speck. (Did you see in the Post today where Captain Queeg Lavin said that Whitehead committed to Seton Hall in September 2013 because "everyone knew" Lavin would be fired in April 2015 and replaced by Mullin? Yeah, he's not mentally ill at all. But I digress).

It is also not true that I am outraged. Generally it takes something pretty serious to get my dander up, like the Holocaust or when the Gilmore Girls got cancelled. Other than that mostly I'm just typing. That you perceive it as "outrage" is merely a testament to my mastery of the written word.

Despite these many errors I understand your point, I just think it's absurd. And its especially absurd coming from posters such as yourself who saw Steve Lavin's buffoonish performance as head coach and even after five long years were not shocked and appalled at his negligence and incompetence and would not hear a discouraging word about him. Regarding Mullin's performance this year there is nothing that can be taken from it, either positive or negative.

Regarding my participation in this thread, consider that a one word post, quote Slice unquote, spawned two threads on two fan forums comprising four hundred posts bemoaning his alleged departure as the most catastrophic event in sports since the 72 Munich Olympics. If I can't mock that you might as well take away my keyboard, which I'm sure you'd admit would be the greatest tragedy in the history of literature since John Kennedy Toole stuck a potato in his exhaust pipe and turned the key.

I've asked you before to not get personal if you disagree with someone.  The loss of Rawle has put them in a bad mood and the rivalry between the two recruiters was already making  a stressful time for the program worse.  Then when Rawle commited to Zona the whole thing seems to have blown up.  I didn't mean to say that the loss of Rawle was  the only factor here.

Didn't get personal at all in regards to your post, I just provided my opinion to your opinion. now with Poison, thats a whole different matter.    BTW, I think you need to starting adding "IMO" to your are posts, unless of course, you are sitting in the midst of the coaching staff and knows the inner workings of why or why not they are feuding or what missing out on Rawle did or did not to do the psyche of Slice.  Me on the other hand - IMO, believe that Slice has missed on many, many more recruits than he has landed and chalks up the miss on Rawle as disappointing... but on to the next one.

Inspector Gadget at work I see, but no, actually sitting in my backyard in beautiful South Florida enjoying a peaceful 80 degree sunny day with a cigar and drink poolside and reading this comedic message board.  Or as you would so eloquently put it in your typical bigoted speak ... The reason SJU glad an upcoming recruiter and if you saw the picture with him hugging pond says it all

Please get another young proven recruiter like a grasso or the guy from VCU or even young from Minnesota or even bring childs back

You need at least two good recruiters the problem with lavin was childs was the only recruiting

Slice was the top recruiter for Kentucky. I think his pedigree is clearly stronger. Let's see how they do with some time, and something to work with. What were kids being recruited to join last May? There was no team in place. It's silly to say we don't need him before he's had a chance to do his job. I don't think he's a miracle worker. No one has been here. But let's wait until we know what the story is, before we reach for our sour grapes.
