34% from the field 34% from the line-BTW I couldn't shoot that bad from the line if I tried. 27 % from three. Now again I haven't seen enough of him to judge the rest of his game but HE CAN'T SHOOT!

Larry Wright's shooting .370 from the floor and .340 from three. He's like a 25 yo junior now. OL is a 19 yo freshman.

Let us not forget 93% from the line. Larry struggled this year. Sometimes guys with pretty jumpers struggle. Sometimes guys with ugly jumpers shoot it well. When a guy with a really ugly jumper shoots terribly it generally means he can't shoot.

I haven't seen enough of him to really evaluate, however he might have the worst looking jumper in the BE. For a 6-4 guy that is a problem.

Newsflash  Wasju.  When a jumper goes thru the orange metal hole, it was a good looking jumper.  When it doesn't it was a bad looking jumper.  They don't give style points in this sport.  You're getting confused with your other favorite sport, synchronized swimming.

More often than not if you have a horrible looking shot it won't go in regularly. See Patterson,, Avery, Sproling,Chuckie, Lawrence, Geno, Boothe, Malik as examples. There are exceptions to every rule but for the most part if you have bad technique it makes it harder to be a good shooter.

I saw Omari's older brother. He is 6'4 235lb. Solid muscle. They said his dad was 6'4 235lb too. Obviously what happened guys from his sophmore season to now is that he grew into his frame. He comes from a big family apparently. He's not that out of shape it's just that his body is maturing. His stats would improve with experience and playing time. What did these other guys shoot like  there freshman year with way more playing time? The bottom line is I saw him play against Lance , Larry Drew of Carolina, Dexter Strickland of Carolina ,Landesburgh of Virginia and he held his own or outplayed all of them. So there is clearly alot of talent there not being harnessed. The main point is that this is a losing team and changes have not been made to the line up to jumpstart.

Larry struggled this year.

Be honest. Larry's struggled every year he played D1 ball.

OL looks like a player to me. Reminds me of Perry McDonald a little bit. Same size, left handed. He couldn't shoot either. But he could score. No doubt the FT shooting has to improve.

all SJU ugly jump shot list:
1. David Cain
2. Omari Lawrence
3. Avery Patterson
4. Chucky Sproling
5. Malik Boothe
6. Geno Lawrence
7. Reggie Jessie
8. Darryl Hill
9. Willie Glass
10. Jason Buchanon

Note some of these guys shot the ball well and some had very nice careers but all had ugly jumpers.

Hill has to be further up that list. His elbow was almost parallel to the ground when he shot the ball.

Avery "3 point record holder" Patterson's "horrible looking shot" went in from very long range 72 times in one single, glorious season at SJU.  More than any other player that ever wore the red and white.

Show some respect for our all-time greats.

Enjoy the tourney.

He played better as a Frosh than Lawrence did and in fact Norm's record would be one game worse if not for Wright's pretty jumper. He also was playing well his Soph year until the point that he realized he was going to transfer and Norm yanked his PT away. This year despite his struggles, he is shooting 93% from the line and will most likely start for an NCAA tourney team.
On Omari, I never said he couldn't be a good player. I only said he can't shoot. At 6-4 if you can't shoot makes life more difficult. McDonald would be a good thing to strive for as would Carl Beckett who though not lefty was 6-4, not a good shooter but a good player.

That's not exactly high praise.

That whole list had ugly jumpers Dave. Was like listing the most doable Golden Girl.

Carmine,
Avery "72 threes" Patterson shot 35% from the floor. Maybe he should have mixed in a drive to give his push shot a little rest?

1. Willie Glass

IFYPFY.

The result was often ugly, but compared to the rest of the list, his form was not terrible.

Form is in the eye of the beholder. IIRC Louie made him practice with a bottle cap taped to the palm of his shooting hand.
