What skill does he have other than spot up shooting?
Court vision?  Nope
Ball handling is average for a guard.
Defense? Nope
Rebounding? No
Setting picks & diving for loose balls etc? No.
Attack the basket off the bounce?  No.
Attack the rim?  Laughably no.
Midrange game?  Haven't seen it.

Imagine being a freshman PG from Europe, playing a different style of play, with a bunch of other freshmen, 2 5th year seniors (who would have been 3rd or 4th guys off the bench on any other Big East team) Amar, Felix and Jones ... All for a coach who has never coached before, playing in a top 3 conference?

He didn't have it easy.  I'll concede that.  But what I saw didn't show me the stuff of a future starter.  And the OP claimed Mussini had some of the best skills he'd seen in the last 20 years or so.

I think Federico can and will be a useful shooter off the bench.   But he needs to seriously beef up.  And I'm not one that usually gives a damn about the size of a kid's biceps, if he can put the ball in the bucket.
But the games I watched in person last year, Mussini took a serious beating fighting through screens every time his man circled through the lane.  And it made a huge difference.... he was almost always knocked off balance, with pancake block type impact. 
And then he's 3 steps behind his man, and other defenders would have to run out on the shooter or help elsewhere as the ball moved around.
It really killed our defense whenever he was on the court.

Btw Marillac, who do you think has a bigger impact over the next two seasons... Mussini or Owens?

Because you wrote off Owens already as a 15mpg backup.
I think he could end give Sima a run for playing time, and end up the starter by mideason if not sooner.

Furthermore he should be playing the  2 where size is even more important. To me he looks like he could be a 3 point specialist off the bench.

Coaches in BE would disagree with you about Sima, just saying. Owens could be a nice piece, but not the starter some think he will be. He will also get more time at the four than five IMO. They are very likely to get Livingston, who will better fill that role I would think.  We'll see.

With Simon coming on board... He,Ponds and Lovett should eat a ton of minutes. I expect at least 1 of either Mussini or Ellison to move on. If Muss can come in and bang a few 3s a game, he could be a nice 4 year player. Ellison couldn't hit the side of a barn, yet he seems to always get a pass here

I might be in the minority but I think Ellison showed pretty nice improvement towards the end of the season. He was getting to the line, racking up some assists and not taking stupid shots for the most part. Still was turning it over a ton but that's to be expected from a freshman with that much responsibility. He still has a ways to go but I think he's another one that will be greatly benefitted by playing with a real PG. I think he's gonna be our starting 2 on opening night.

This is a big year for Sima, imo.  Right now, he is our center of the future but he cant do it by himself.  Look at the recruiting patterns of the staff, they are trying to bring in Livingston because he fills the need at the PF position with depth,  and will give us a bigger lineup when playing with Sima.  Owens is going to be our flex 4.  Guy will get minutes in the front court, when we go smaller, possibly with Yawke.  IMO, our 17 recruit is going to depend a lot on the development of our front line depending on who leaves, if any. 

Mussini struggles every bit as much on defense as his antagonists will say. On offense though I think he is so much more than just a shooter off the bench. His passing, ball handling, and yes most importantly, ability to get into the lane are all under appreciated. This past season he got worn down and that is a concern of course but it is not unusual for freshmen players. Once he was moved off the ball about 15-20 games into the season he wasn't playing as well in general and struggled to shoot. With an off season to work on exactly what he needs to work on he will come back a much better player with a smaller role.

People on this board are being way to critical of Mussini.  This year he was asked to do more than he can on, a beyond awful team.   The kid has an intangible that you cant just teach and that is high basketball IQ.  He will be our 4th guard which will suit him well, and will be playing off the ball which is where he can shine.  He is limited with quickness which hurts his defense, but has he gets older and stronger, he can use those smarts to put himself in a better defensive position as opposed to playing back on his heels where he just cant recoup quick enough to get back on the ball.  Its almost where he is going to have to learn to anticipate the play before the play happens to help him get better defensively.  However that is the best part of him, he is smart enough to do that over time.

Ellison will be a nice player once his skills catch up to his opinions of his skills. You can't teach overconfidence.

I was actually high on Ellison early on but I see some serious flaws in his game. He doesn't seem to do any one thing at a high level, and that's not to imply that he has a balanced game. He doesn't attack the basket hard and he should use that 6'5 size to his advantage. He seems to be very indecisive and lacks confidence with the ball in his hands. I have faith that Mussini will be a solid scorer off the bench for us this year. Playing off the ball and a year in the weight room will help him a lot. The kid wants to get better and you can see it when he's out there.
