Maybe that's why he struggled so much in basketball, misplaced priorities.  ;)

The only other player I can recall having such a promising freshmen campaign yet ending up such a disappointment in the end is Reggie Jessie.

So that is how he left his mark on the bench.

You don’t think Reggie Jessie was good as a sophomore and as a junior? He was a mess as a senior. Willie Shaw and Eric King come to mind as promising freshman that just didn’t get better.

Interesting that those three were all coached by the same guy. Agree about Jessie, he was pretty good until his last year. King was marginally better as a sophomore than as a freshman and gets bonus points for having the good sense to transfer. My vote goes to Justin Burrell. He looked like he had the makings of an all american as a freshman and never really progressed. I know he was 6th man of the year as a senior but I didn't understand it then and I still don't.

Why is that interesting? Eric King transferred to East Tennessee State and Willie Shaw became a reserve for the Harlem Globetrotters. What I find interesting is that you speak out of both sides of your mouth. Why is King anymore interesting than Sima?

Why is that interesting?

It's interesting because all three players who were mentioned as not having improved didn't improve under Jarvis, who is regarded by some as a good coach.

What does Sima have to do with the conversation? I didn't see his name mentioned in this thread. Are you saying that he had a "promising freshmen campaign" and then failed to improve? I wouldn't describe him that way. He started out okay, got hurt, came back, was not the same and then quit the team eight games into his sophomore year. He didn't give himself a chance to disappoint me. That's why King is more interesting than him, because he was part of the conversation I joined. If you want to talk about Sima I'd be happy to discuss him with you. Well not happy, but willing, time permitting.

I can't remember him as a sophomore and junior because my brain is soaked.  His promise as a freshmen and sucktitude as a senior are all that stand out.

The point is that your evaluation isn't objective. Jarvis didn't develop enough talent. If he did, they wouldn't have cared where he got his talent from. Eric King and Willie Shaw were talents that failed to improve here, or elsewhere. Like Sima. Yet, when it was Sima (who was absolutely a promising player as a freshman here) that left for Oklahoma State and didn't improve one bit, it's because he just sucks.

You're not objective in your evaluations.

No one is objective in their evaluations. That would be impossible.
