If in some crazy world Heron was granted a waiver and came here it really pisses me off that Owens left. Honestly that could have been Final Four worthy team. I know that sounds crazy but seriously that's crazy good.

I liked Owens a lot, but I think Keita can probably hold serve at center..  he’s a big guy with skills  and yes we will be a little smaller and less deep at center, but the rest of the team is excellent and deep.  Hopefully Roberts can also get rolling a bit to spell Keita at times.

Heron is an excellent rebounding guard too, so that could help cover up some of our front court deficiencies.

I wouldn't say excellent rebounding guard. His rebounding numbers are fairly average, maybe slightly above average for a 3. Nothing spectacular.

I hope the staff really emphasizes rebounding this offseason to Simon and Clark. If Heron comes and is immediately eligible we should always have at least 3 of Keita, Clark, Simon, and Heron on the court at all times. That should be enough to improve our rebounding from terrible to average.

Lets also remember that Owens was a pretty terrible rebounder for a 6-11 kid so that part of his game shouldn't be tough to replace. It's on the staff to get everybody to buy into team rebounding

I would include LJ in that group you mentioned.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

Just curious, in the world of make believe, If Owens stayed who else leaves to add Heron?

Wouldn't Heron be taking Diakite's scholarship? So no one.

Good point. I've never seen him play so don't really know if he has a nose for the glass but he has the size and athleticism to be a decent rebounder too if he doesn't mind going in there. Hope he becomes a big part of improving in that area as well.

Maybe excellent was going a bit too far but he's a very good rebounder for a guard. Here is a excerpt of a scouting report off an NBA draft website that scouted him:

"Summary:
Mustapha Heron is an athletic swingman that can shoot and score the basketball.  He also rebounds the ball well, especially for a player his size...."

Bottomline him being a good rebounder is a very good thing considering our rebounding deficiency.

Not that it matters, but if Heron is taking the last scholarship (Diakite’s), then we would be one over the limit if Owens was still on the team.

Look at the stool placement for Earlington. MCNPA has been saying Earlington is 6'3 and Roberts is 6'10 for months. 🤔 How is he so close in height to a 6'10 kid and so much taller than a kid listed 6'3/6'4?

Confused. Who got Owens scholarship if Heron gets Diakite's?

We lost Ahmed, Alibagowitz, Diatkite, Yawke and Lovett.

We add Roberts, Williams, Earlington, and possibly Gil Scott Heron. Owens would make five. Am I forgetting someone?

Also add Caraher and Wright, the sit outs. Had one open last year from never replacing Sid Wilson

You're forgetting LJ Figueroa, something you won't be able to do once he starts playing.

Hey Marillac, you’re right.  He’s bigger than I thought and Roberts shorter than I hoped.  Either way I’m rooting for all of them..

Per Ellie Lieberman
Mustapha Heron will receive his official release from Auburn today and then start his official visit to St. John’s, per his father Bryan Heron.

If Heron is coming to campus tomorrow then I’d feel really good he’s in class next week. I’m shocked and amazed. I’ve always loved his game. The versatility and strength of this team is amazing

I feel very confident that St. John's will get a quick commitment from him.

If he signs in the next few days, then get him in class immediately. He puts together some solid grades in summer session and this can only help his hardship case.

I think we land Heron but I don't think he will be eligible next year.
