Unfortunately the staff blew it with the scheduling this year and that will undoubtedly hurt us on selection sunday no matter what happens. We HAVE to be 12-0 going into the first BE game on 12/29. Anything less would be a disaster and even 12-0 would be a very unimpressive undefeated record with that schedule.
This is patently absurd. We had a top SOS last year so clearly someone understands the RPI better than you.
We are playing at #3 Duke, @ Rutgers of the Big Ten, and a handful of neutral court games against big conference foes. You make it seem like we are playing St. Francis at home twelve times!
We can easily absorb and 10-2 start. Our schedule is a Ga Tech or California being decent this season away from being perfect.
This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Again, Marquette and Creighton each play 6 games tougher than anybody we play in the first 12 games of the season. There is complete consensus from every mildly smart person on Twitter that our schedule is a MAJOR issue, because it is.
Not only would going 10-2 be horrific for us come selection Sunday, losing 2 of those games would mean we stink, plain and simple. We will be double digit favorites in every single one of these games except for @ Rutgers which we'll be a 5 or 6 point fav.
Also, the RPI is dead and replaced by the quad system. None of those first 12 games will be Q1 games, while everybody else will be playing several of them
The RPI has not been replaced by the quadrant system, it has been replaced by the NET. The quadrant system will be used on the team sheets on selection Sunday so it will still play a role for the second season.
I am baffled by how you can divorce the game @ #3 Duke from the rest of the OOC schedule. That will be one of the toughest OOC games played by any team in college basketball this season. On top of that, any team can lose on the road to a team like Rutgers.
Temple was #52 in the RPI and is expecting to make the dance. VCU is not far behind. Cal will likely be middle to bottom of the PAC12 but it's still a high major on a neutral court. GA Tech has potential to push for the bubble as well and that is on a neutral court as well.
Duke is a Q1 game, Rutgers will be a Q2 game, and Temple will be a Q1 or Q2 game.
If the staff knew for certain Heron would be eligible in sure they would have liked to add a better opponent for an MSG game. But we have to be one of the least appealing matchups for coaches of quality teams with Heron up in the air and Ponds up in the air at the time...we could be top 15 or outside the top 100.
So many things you said in this post are patently false.
1) Temple is a middle of the pack AAC team this year. They are not expecting to make the tournament this year. They can be a bubble team if they catch breaks, but thats about it. That will not be a Q1 game.
2) VCU is pretty far behind Temple. VCU is a middle of the pack team in the A-10 which has turned into a mediocre at best conference. Their best player is hurt and they aren't a top 100 team. Hopefully we don't play them.
3) Cal has no chance of reaching the middle of the Pac 12. They stink. If it wasn't for Washington State, Cal would be the unanimous pick to finish last in that conference which is still pretty weak at the bottom. Just because they play in a high major conference that doesn't make beating them any better. They are worse than a good amount of low-major conference schools. NJIT is probably better than Cal this year. That's not an exaggeration.
4) Georgia Tech will be nowhere near the bubble this year. Unless the NCAA rules 50 teams ineligible for the postseason because of this court case, G Tech won't be near the bubble. They weren't a top 100 last year and they lost their 2 best players and didn't really replace them with anybody good. Similarly to Cal, if it wasn't for Pitt, GT would be the unanimous pick to finish last in the conference.
Let's assume in our 13 conference games we have one Q1 game (@Duke), two Q2 (@ Rutgers being generous, Temple neutral) and the rest will be Q3 and Q4 games. Can you find one other power conference teams with expectations with only three Q1 + Q2 games in the OOC?
