They are good. Wouldn't be mad at taking an L to them but it's one of those games you need to win at home.

Absolutely. There’s no way around it. You have to beat Vermont in Jamaica.

They may have upperclassmen and continuity, but we are not without experience and some (although not nearly as much) continuity as well.

Getting Dunn back would help, but much like we were disappointed with Yakwe’s debut, it’s a lot to ask Dunn to step right in, fit right in and do damage.

But, you never know how ready a kid will be. Maybe he’ll be hungry and ready?

I may seem biased to you because you are not good at comparisons.

We should never go into games against Bowling Green or Vermont at home worrying about losses. Losing to teams like that is disappointing regardless of how good they are. We should never sink to that level as a program.
I agree. We should always kill these teams.  But- You talked up bowling green up for a long time for some unknown reason. Like 25 posts on how that game would strengthen our schedule. LWe had the preseason player of the year and a team expected to finish in the top of the big east and you were talking up our win against ball state (I mean bowling green) constantly. Didn’t make sense to me. But I probably just didn’t understand.
Mike Anderson doesn’t need a pass but we played the last 4 years without a head coach. Complete rebuild is necessary. We have sunk to the level where Saturday is a real game. Even though it shouldn’t be.

What is so difficult for you to understand? Did I once post about possibly losing to Bowling Green? Did I even say one thing good about them prior to the game? No.

If you want to talk about the SOS/RPI/NET impact of playing a team like Vermont that is an entirely different discussion, and I am likely to be far more charitable towards Vermont in that regard.

My point was extremely narrow:  a program like St. John’s should never be okay with losing to a program like Vermont at home.

So how good is Vermont?

They’ve made three straight Final Fours and have won 30 games a season. They beat the piss out of every Big East and ACC team that is foolish enough to play them. If we can just lose by less than 20 we should consider ourselves lucky. Their fans are lunatics and travel in caravans of thousands.

That is what the Anderson nut huggers are acting like.

That’s not reality though. We should win by 10-15.

Lost @ #2 Kansas by 14 last year (4 point game at half). By 8 @ Louisville. By 7 to Florida state in the tourney.

Year before lost by 4 @ Kentucky.

And we should expect to win by 10-15?

Reality is not his strong suit. 11 players returning from an NCAA tourney team, plus 2 high  major transfer big men and a good incoming frosh class. Clearly this all adds up to an easy W for the Johnnies in a parallel universe somewhere.

They lost by 25 to Lipscomb last year and by 11 and 14 to Univesity  of Maryland Baltimore County last year. They lost by 27 to Middle Tenn State the year before.

They caught Kansas in a trap scenario between Michigan State and the Preseason NIT field and still lost by 16.

This should be a game that is a tough win st worst and a runaway at best. Anything else is a major disappointment and I will never be convinced otherwise.  This is not a top 50 team so if we can’t dispose of them at home it will be a long season.

No argument with expecting to win. Expecting to win by 10-15 is a bit unfair.

Seeing red podcast had Vermont’s radio guy on yesterday. He made it seem like Vermont hasn’t been playing as well they have hoped. They have been shooting especially from 3 point land really poorly. He also mentioned their post player Lamb. Said he has NBA interest. Kid can score From every where. Vermont experienced team that won’t be scared of environment or stage. Podcast was worth a listen.
“Anderson nut huggers”, wow I am sure their is some nuance that I just don’t understand. But I am trying to imagine someone spending so much time on a fan site and then being angry that FINALLY the team starting getting things right. I am NUT HUGGER and I am thrilled that Anderson is here.

All that matters is the w. Margin of victory is meaningless.

This game will tell us something about our coaching staff.

Of course we should beat Vermont. Of course, we should be expected to beat them.

In keeping my eye on the prize, if by February we are playing like the vision we are all hoping for, a November/December loss or two won’t mean very much.

They were an NCAA tournament team the same way that Iona was:  by virtue of winning the tournament in a shitty conference.

I struggle with reality? You post like Anderson’s wife. Whatever you want to say bad about Mullin, he would have certainly won this game. Look at his out of conference losses his last two seasons...he won every single game he was supposed to and several toss-ups and games he shouldn’t have.

If you and your Anderson crew are so high on him why are you scared of Vermont? You think a coach with decades of experience can’t beat a non-top 50 team from an inferior conference with a bad record out of conference against D-1 teams the last few years? That’s rather insulting.

You mean they actually guaranteed their spot in the tourney by leaving no doubt and playing their win in.

Kind of the polar opposite to how Mullin's team laid on their back and prayed they were the LAST team to make the dance?

Sure he would have won this game. Suuure...

Who’d they beat UM Baltimore Couty?!

Please deal in facts. Who did Mullin lose to out of conference the last two years that he shouldn’t have? What about from a non-power 6 conference? Exactly. But you guys are scared your savior can’t beat Vermont at home with two all Big East preseason players.

The same UMBC team that knocked out #1 seed UVA the year before. Connecting the dots isn't working in your favor. This should be a tough game and I don't think anyone ( well almost) is expecting a decisive SJU victory.

We are like 3 point favorites so with home court being worth 3 points that means the teams are rated as even so don't know why you say we have to beat them by 10-15 points. I'll take a one point win as this is a game where a win is a win not what I would maintain in a cupcake game. Please explain your venom you constantly direct toward CMA.

In the latest bracketology on espn. Vermont is a 12 seed. As per usual the professor is full of shit. This would be a solid win.

As of today, Vermont would be favored on a neutral court against: UConn, Stanford, Arizona State, Wake Forest, St. John's, Northwestern, Temple, Boston College, Utah, UCLA, Nevada, UCF, Nebraska, Washington State, Vanderbilt and Cal just to name a few. Stop thinking conference affiliation matters to how good a team is, it doesn't.

They've been the crème de la crème in the AE for sometime now.  They're in the conference final of this one bid league practically every year.  They're very strong at home; Lamb is very good and their coach is a big plus.
