Look at the Hall’s recruiting class. We are recruiting on the same level already and it wasn’t too long ago that both Lavin and Mullin brought in higher rated kids consistently than any of those programs save for possibly UConn during the same period.

Pitino will recruit well at Iona. Don’t think it impacts us or those other programs that much.

We know some kids will want Pitino. That’s always been true.

As long as our staff is out working, we’ll get our share of players.

Maybe early but does anyone think the Big East will look to add them as number 12 if they have quick success with Pitino?

Slice still on St John’s payroll?

St.John’s and Hofstra all exceeded expectations this season.
How did St. John's exceed expectations?  They were 5 - 13 and finished in 9th place when they started the year with two preseason all-conference selections.

How could Iona possibly afford this? I don't get it.

Doesn't Pitino still face personal sanctions by the NCAA? Just because he took off doesn't make him exempt from the punishment he had coming to him?

Evidently Pitino was never personally sanctioned and there is no show cause order, because  why would the NCAA do that, it might affect the bottom line.

I am a huge Anderson fan, but silly to think we exceeded expectations....we actually finished about where most though t we would...with that said, we did play well late and if not for a bunch of late game messes, we would have probably exceeded what most thought prior to the season...

I have read that Pitino never served the 5 game suspension handed down by the NCAA because he was fired first and that they are not finished with the Louisville investigation.

We finished with an NET ranking of 62. Looked like we had a good shot of beating the #7 ranked team in the country in the 2nd round of the BET. If you asked every St.John's fan if they would sign up for finishing as the 62nd ranked team in the country, 90% would say that would be exceeding expectations.

I for one thought that after our non conference schedule 9-9 in conference would have exceeded expectations and while we should have we didn’t....I agree, I think we were gonna beat Creighton and as crazy as it sounds I truly believe we would have been in finals...but after all was said and done, lots of good things to take from season, but was about where I expected...

And if you asked every Big East fan if they’d be happy finishing 5-13 nobody would have taken it.

Well most reasonable fans realized we'd likely finish towards the bottom of the Big East. I think the amount of quality wins we had this season, and the way we closed the season was impressive.

5-13 is not good. But sometimes it's important to look at other things despite the record when evaluating a season. Player development was great. Champagnie, Greg Williams, and Earlington are all guys that look poised to be quality players for us going forward. We beat good teams. West Virginia, Arizona, Creighton, Providence, and Marquette. We competed in just about every game that we lost.

I get that for whatever reason, a lot of fans still don't believe in Anderson. But this season was fun to watch, exceeded my expectation, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Anderson improves once he gets his own kids in here.

How was player development great? Champagnie came in was awesome day one. Credit for finding and using him is definitely in order there, but not development.

Everyone loved Williams last year and he slightly underachieved in the eyes of many, including myself.

Earlington is Earlington. See my posts about him since day one. He hits the glass and he is more skilled then the big men he goes against.

Roberts regressed. Heron regressed. LJ regressed. Dunn didn’t change in any way all season.

Sears didn’t develop. Steere didn’t develop. Caraher didn’t develop.

I think Champaigne, Williams, caraher, Earlington, and LJ were all playing their best ball at the end of the season.  Can’t remember the last time that was the case.
