Not to start s**t, but a good deal (I would say most?) of the people who post about Norm's recruiting assail him for not getting enough of the local kids, not getting in on them in time. And for bringing too many players from outside the area (who, granted, have not been impact ballers). I think they'd want him to concentrate his efforts on kids who play IS8 and other local events.
I see the point, but I like those two Pennsylvania kids in the starting lineup and hope the third one makes some plays this year.
Yeah, I agree. I personally don't care if they all come from Staten Island, Chicago, or Wyoming. For whatever reason, the novelty of playing in NY and at St. John's specifically doesn't seem to be there with the local kids this decade. Hopefully, that changes in time and with increased success, but, in the meantime, he can't put himself at a severe disadvantage in the BE by almost entirely recruiting NY and its neighboring states. Despite all of the time and resources put into chasing the locals, he and the staff have managed to land two quality NY players, Burrell and Lawrence, in 5+ years. With the time that Roberts and even Quartlebaum spent in the Midwest, I hope they'd be able to land some Chicago or Texas players and advance the program from the days of Carnesecca's "subway token" approach to recruiting.
