Quincy Roberts to be Redshirted and Mason Update [NY Post]

Update from earlier article.

Senior swingman Anthony Mason Jr. will undergo an ultrasound today on his hamstring. If the results show the muscle has properly healed, he will begin some individual workouts in about a week. Sophomore Quincy Roberts (migraines) will likely be redshirted today.

Hope Quincy recovers fully.  Concussions are a scary thing.  He's got talent and we could use him to balance out the classes a bit and in the long run I think this benefits him too.  Too much depth this year and next.  I like him and Omari running together for 2 years.

I agree. Let him get his head straight, and he'll still have 3 years with Stith and Omari

Hope Quincy is in good spirits over this redshirting. Your second year can sometimes help a great deal. See Scoop Jardine, and Jamine Peterson.  Both came back having corrected major flaws in their games, and both are legit BE weapons.

Mason is likely going to get minutes when he returns.

For the long haul, if Quincy recovers this is could be a good thing for SJU.

It's a good thing. Quincy can get stronger, and practice not running the point ever again.
Maybe he can develop into a quality shooting guard with some practice.

Agreed.  Assuming the young man fully recovers, redshirting is the best thing for both the team and him.

Hoping for the best for Quincy; and I thought it would be a waste for him to be a deep-rotation guy for two years.  He has some skill even if the stats didn't show it last year - good height, a nice looking floater, a decent looking jumper, the ability to hit free throws and make a few passes.

I think this is not a case of migranes, but a case of "migranes." As long as he s on board with this, it will be good for both him and the team in the future.

I am not a student so I don't see him on campus. But I was at the Stony Brook game which was like the 3rd/4th game in a row he didn't play. At the time I didn't know he was injured (he didn't look hurt). During this time their were rumors that he was going to transfer. Because of this I payed extra close attention to him during warmups and timeouts. I was happy to see that he was into the game. He was the 1st guy off the bench during timeouts. He cheered his teamates on.
I hope he is not in pain and I very happy he is redshirting. We are going to need him in 2 years. The extra year is only going to help him.

Good, Quincy has too much talent to be sitting on the bench for 2 years....and of course he's not gonna be happy practicing every morning and not being able to play in the games but this is best for him and he probably knows it

SJU never fails to "under estimate" the amount of time that a player will be out with an injury.  If Mase is still (at least) a week away from beginning individual workouts, I highly doubt he'll be ready for the Georgetown game.

Quincy will one day play a big role for St.John's. He just needs to wait his time.

Not sure I understand why Mason wold need to wait a week to workout if the MRI shows that the legs has healed.

Quincy must have had one of the worst concussions ever if St. John's is going to get a medical redshirt for him.

Evens out the talent a little, though.  I hope that talk of transferring is just idle talk.

No reason for Quincy to go anywhere. He'll get his chance.

I have not heard transfer talk but it makes sense if they told him he is going to redshirt.

I believe he has a concussion history from his HS football days.
