I have mixed feelings for Burrell right now. Brownlee has just been fantastic. Back to back double-doubles, he has blocked more shots already this season than JB did his whole first year. Brownlee is just such an energy guy and he CREATES points for himself and others.
JB has a good back to the basket game and he also has the best 12-15 foot jump shot on the team. I think that jumper will be huge in some dry spells, because it is a shot that will always be there for a PF. Hopefully JB can come back and rebound like a maniac.
Why are we comparing Brownlee and Burrell? I want both in the game at the same time.
Kennedy, Hardy/Horne, Mase, Brownlee, Burrell is an insanely athletic team. I think you can get away playing Burrell at C esp. if you have Kennedy and/or Mase at the 3.
I think Evans hustles more on offense and during breaks. He makes opposing centers pay. He also rebounds better.
He is also a Turnover machine, can turn into a black hole, and doesn't box out on the defensive glass.
TO machine...absolutely. I think Norm has to reign him in. He tries to be a SF at times and he is not. JB1 has to rebound. It's that simple. The simple fact is that Evans is the better rebounder of the two.
I don't think we're disagreeing then. My point is, if we have Kennedy and Brownlee already in, I go with slightly worse rebounding but increased flow of offense, which is Justin Burrell. I also think Evans' athleticism and desire results in far more offensive rebounds. I'm not convinced he's a better defensive rebounder than Burrell. Burrell is one of the few guys on the team I notice occasionally making a concerted effort to box out.
The lack of boxing out kills me. IF everyone boxed out we'd have such a huge rebounding advantage it would be absurd.
I don't think we are disagreeing either. Evans is such an enigma to me--just when you've had it with him he makes and amazing cut or throws down a ridiculous dunk in transition after outrunning GUARDS to get to the basket.
JB1 does box out well defensively and that does lead to others getting his boards, which has to be accounted for. The thing that worries me about JB1 is his lack of success in getting 50/50 balls. I hope it was the mask and it's too early in the season to say that it wasn't. JB1 does give us our most legit offensive PF. His jumper is underutilized IMO.
Brownlee, however, has just been incredible so far. JB1 and Evans are consumers, but Brownlee is a producer. His tip-ins, rebounds, rejections, and deflections all create points that we haven't had as a team in six years.
