If someone referred to Mrs. Tha Kid to Jocelyn Wildenstein. I don't think you'd take too kindly. Its an ugly slippery slope. I just don't want any name calling thats derogatory period. I think we're all mature enough to handle that.

Also when I hear Lamont, I think of Hamilton.

1) don't know who jocelyn is
2) Mrs. Tha Kid doesn't put herself out in the public eye...Neither does Tha Kid.  Norm roberts gets paid a lot to do what he does and is on regional tv regularly.  He puts himself out there.  Name calling of a coach is part of what he signed up for.

That said - this is a private site, so if they are your rules so be it.

It's just the standard I want to uphold here. Norm Roberts is a person just like everyone else. Calling him what you were might not be the worst thing in the world but I want to stay away from it and focus more on his coaching or lack there of :)

Now we're talkin'.  It just makes me upset watching this Duke-Georgia Tech game.  If we fired Norm maybe we coulda had Hewitt.  He RECRUITS.  Funny that so many guys hated on Paul Hewitt bc of a few mediocre years.  This guy is a top notch recruiter and his guys play passionately and intensely.  I hope they lose obbviously.

Apples and oranges, Dave.  Roberts isn't your father, so why the sensitivity?

It might be a slippery slope and yes, we're all mature to handle it.  So, why the sensitivity towards Roberts being called, "Lamont?"

Trust me!  When Roberts is referred to, as Lamont....  It shouldn't confuse you with it being Lamont Hamilton.

How about we call him, Fred Sanford's son?  lol  If, you're not familiar then go watch a few episodes of Sanford & Son on why he's being called "Lamont."

We're doomed with this guy, as the coach of St. John's.  The administration has to get it right after this season.  For all intent and purpose, I'm done watching for the remainder of this season.....  And, will be done for the forseeable future, if Roberts is brought back after this year.

There is no sensitivity about it. It just is what it is. I've asked you not to do it, now I'm telling you not to do it. If you don't comply then you risk consequences of being able to post here. Now is that worth it? Or can you simply call the man by his name? I can't believe you're really making an issue out of this, mjdinkins. We're here to discuss and debate basketball not to act like children by calling people derogatory names.

This isn't open for debate either. Drop the issue now and lets get back to topic.

You're the one making a big issue of it.  You're acting like a child by sweating Roberts being called, "Lamont."  If, you feel the need to revolk my pass to post here....  So, be it!  It's your perogative.  I won't lose any sleep.  Hopefully, you get off your high horse.  Nevertheless, if the program continues to go the way it's going....  You won't have no one to post here.

The subject at hand....  I can't really talk about the discussion thread.  I didn't watch the game nor will I watch another game for the remainder of this season (and, possibly next season, if Roberts is retained).  So, my post are either gonna be about the state of program or recruits.

It's a very simple rule to follow. Don't call other people names. If you can't handle that then don't post here. It's your decision not mine.

What you are saying isn't the worst thing in the world but it creates a slippery slope of what I don't want this place turning into. We're here to discuss hoops civilly.

Norm, Norm Roberts, Roberts, Coach Roberts, and Norman. If you want to compliment or criticize his coaching ability by all means do so but call the man by his name.

So, it diminishes my point of the game of basketball or a game in general because I call Roberts, "Lamont?"

If, you answer 'yes' to that particular question then I'm totally done with this conversation.

 WORST COACH EVER!!

This, my friends, is a fact. Worst BE record for a coach in the history of the league and the margin is widening by the day.
You guys call him whatever you like,  but the stats don't lie,   guy is a loser in the coaching profession.

I can agree with you there, boo.  The margin is definitely widening, as you say.  It's like the length of a basketball court of the worst coach in conference history.

That'll be his new name, boo.  W.C.E.B.E.H.  (Worst Coach Ever in Big East History).

Back to basketball for a minute.  Why did Burrell only play 7 minutes?  There is no other excuse unless he's hurt.  Xhoops,  this is your cue.....

I don't think (just my opinion) that Paris is selfish.  I think he's having the same problem that Kemba Walker is having for UConn offensively.  He has his eyes on one target and that's the hoop.  Not looking at the court as a whole and when he drives and he's cut off, he's clueless and confused.

2 problems I had with the game today:

1) As Tha Kid and a few others said, when Lville made their runs, we were SO disorganized offensively and lacked any kind of guidance.  This falls on both Norm and our PG's.

2) Even though Samardo only had 9 points, he easily could've had 25.  We did a bad job (with the exception of Burrell pretty much) of denying him position.

We're now 0-3 and about to play a fired up Cincy team that just lost to Seton Hall.  Oh yea, and it's Lance's homecoming (which could work in our favor if he bugs out and takes 30 shots on Wednesday).  This game is our last hope (IMO) to begin salvaging any NCAA hopes.

I'm too geeked about the Jets win to return to this game.  Well, not true.  Will have more thoughts but it was kind of an interesting game... I guess he was trying to play the whole roster? Everyone gets a minute!  Really, I think it was the second half defense and the fact that the team could have rebounded better.  Paris could have played a better game, yeah.

And Burrell could have played more, but his defense on Samardo was... well, Sean DID do better. But the failing in this game is one of defense first and then of confused offense in the second half - not just the sets, but the strange way everyone started shotputting shots at the rim like they were trying to get bailed out.  It was like they all regressed to middle school.  Frankly, it was kind of bizarre.  They lost their damned heads.  And what Theo said.

But not as putrid a performance as vs. Providence.

And with respect to the Lamont argument:

Guys, I say this as a person and not as a mod, respect the "don't call the Coach 'Lamont'".  I say this in part because I was looking around at some stuff on Paul Hewitt yesterday (some Georgia Tech message board linked to my blog and some notes about Hewitt).  And the stuff they say... I mean, it's Georgia, and they're backwards a-holes, but it's bizarre stuff and name calling and people just twisting words to holler about "reverse racism" and some fictional "race card".

And one of the reasons I enjoy this site much more than some of the others (and I am realizing, more than other schools' fan blogs) is that we all have been very good about ripping on the FACTS of the team, the style of play, and even the players at times... without the infantile ad hominem attacks that are so prevalent on message boards and comment strings.

I like talking about the straight issues, not whether or not the coach makes me think of Sanford yelling "whaddaya want you big DUMMY."  Which does make me snicker a little, but is irrelevant to the discussion of basketball strategy, history, and the like.  It releases the frustration, but it helps a board devolve into ALLCAPS responses and lunacy, and I think it's great that the regular posters stay clear of that, even while being passionately angry.

I'm going back to my beer now.

i cant believe paris is getting hammered like this on the boards.
if stjohns is going to be competitive it is going to stem from their defense.  paris horne is the anchor. i think his offensive problems come from those 11 lbs he added over the summer. For a guy with his skill sets (high elevation jumper, hustle plays, running the court) those 11 lbs are going to throw you off. with that said, his handle is his weak point.

the problem of this team is the coach. he is timid when it comes to substitution decisions, despicable when it comes to game preparation, heart breaking when it comes to recruiting, and really good at sticking around to collect a paycheck.

i dont care what you call him, i just wish it wasnt 'Coach.'

Inexcusable.  For Justin more than just about anyone else, I want him to have a real coach in his senior year.
