Team won a tough game last night , a game I thought they would lose. . GOOD FOR THEM.

They did it despite their inept coach last night.

Hardy came up huge for the team last night and should be commended.

Brownlee and Hardy had over 50% of the team's points last night, lets see if they start to get more minutes.

Good point, although I still like these guys off the bench rather than starting. But they need to get the minutes and be on the floor at the end

The 5 who subbed in played better than the 5 starters!

OK it's one thing to have ONE guy like a Manu Ginobili coming off the bench who is going to play 80% of the minutes and provide some offensive spark.  It's a WHOLE other thing to have MULTIPLE players start on the bench who are better than the starters.  That is just called dumb coaching!  Why start yourself in a hole?

If you want Hardy to start form the bench, fine, but he deserves more than 20 minutes.  IF Hardy is our "Manu Ginobili," then the starting lineup should be:

Boothe, Horne, Kennedy, Brownlee, Burrell

Mason, Hardy, and Evans are PLENTY offense and "spark" to bring off the bench.

What Norm does is he sits BOTH brownlee and burrell!  Norm starts a PG who doesn't do much, a center who does nothing offensively, a shooting guard who hasn't done naything offensively this year, a power forward who sometimes disappears and sometimes gets out of control and acts like a PG, and DJ Kennedy.  That is a dumb starting lineup.  If it is not changed, there should be some paper that can be signed by all of the assistants and the players, similar to what the cabinet can do saying the president is unfit to act.

52 point at home against
Cinci tells me that we can't afford
to have Hardy out there for only 25 minutes.

It's not like bringing him off the bench
is working so brilliantly for us.

The got a great effort by him in the 2nd half,
but we can't count on him carrying us off the bench when
our starters are so out of balance offensively.

Hardy is solid, but he's not going to score 25 a game every game without the chance.
Instead of giving up his minutes to Mase, he should get more burn.

We need to score the ball. Hardy has to be our go to guy. It's the only way we'll compete.

I'd give him 33-37 minutes game.

What would his ppg be if he took 17-20 shots a game like Hazell?
Give the young man the green light. It's him or bust.

definitely a huge win but I will continue on with the "but" portion of the thread as well.

as theo pointed out, these substitutions are getting to be a joke. it's obvious that norm has no feel for minutes or flow. no way brownlee and burrell should be off the floor at the same time. playing 12 guys 8 minutes into the game is almost impossible, there just arent that many whistles.

there are two MAJOR concerns on this team right now and they both started with conference play and one makes sense and one doesn't.

the first is free throws. it's like an epidemic has taken over this team. it's contagious, not even paris or dj can hit them anymore (at least hardy can). even at a high school level we were not allowed to leave the gym until we made 100. if you missed, you ran.

secondly is offensive rebounds for the other team. we are getting absolutely DESTROYED on the glass, louisville and cincinnati had 2 chances on every single possession.

now this might weaken my theory about defending the offensive rebounds because I know it makes it a little harder but how come we didnt play any zone last night? cincy did not make a single 3 pointer, they couldnt have taken more than 3 or 4 but they were killing us inside. how many times was thomas or gates WIDE open underneath for an easy dunk.

but you have a to win games like this you even want to sniff postseason play great win. hardy has to play 30 minutes its not brain surgery.  also, mason has to start being aggressive, he's not going to feel comfortable out there until he takes it strong to the rack and gets a dunk or gets fouled and gets up

Cincy HANDED this game to us tonight. Hardys 4 FT's were huge.

Few things on Norm:

-Why the EFF would you full court press with ALL 5 guys up 2 with 7 seconds left? We were asking for a foul/being beat to the basket. Awful decision that we got away with.

-At about 1:00 left in the game, Norm lets our players bring the ball down the court, lets the players throw it back and forth for a few seconds, and then calls a TO with 23 seconds left on the shotclock. THEN, out of the timeout, we have no play being ran, we continue to run our "prevent offense," and we get a shot clock violation called.

-Why were DJ and (to some extent) Hardy sat for extended periods of time? Boggled my mind.

-In the first 8.5 minutes of the game, Norm played TWELVE (12) guys. Yes, I counted. He actually managed to play a 12 man rotation in the first 8.5 minutes. He was going BUCK WILD with the substitutions.

A win's a win, though, and our tournament hopes remain on life support.

Everyone is entitle to there coaching opinions. I strong disagree with some of you thoughts

Anytime a game is under 10 seconds you play man to man pressure the ball. We did not foul and most coaches would play it that way.

I would love to know what we talk about in timeouts when we set a play. I agree it really never works out.

DJ played 30 minutes and if I was the coach he would not have played that many. So far DJ is not getting it done in Big East play. He bounces the ball way to much. He is one of the reason the offence does not follow because he holds the ball and lets defence reset and catch up. Way to many dumb turnovers.

In the 1st 8.5 minutes Norm was looking for someone to step up, but no one did. I agree it looked like a revolving door.

I win is a win. Last year the loss to Cin turned our season for the worst. Maybe beating them this year will turn our season for the best.

No, most coaches would not press ALL 5 guys full court.  Most leave 2 in the backcourt in case someone gets beat to the rim.  We didn't do that.  If we're up 3 and we're allowing a lay-up/fouling, then fine.  But we were up 2.

DJ isn't getting it done in Big East play?  Against Louisville he had 20 pts and 8 boards.  Vs. Providence- 13 points, 9 boards, 6 assists. Vs. Gtown 11pts, 6 boards, 5 assists.  Those numbers are better than pretty much anyone on our team during Big East play, so I don't know who ELSE you want on the floor more in place of him.  He's a great rebounding SF and we needed about 5 more minutes out of him last night.

Yes, no one stepped up in the first 8.5 minutes and Norm was looking for an answer- BUT he never allowed his guys time to get into the flow of it before taking them out.  It's also not like he took them out after crucial mistakes, he took them out very randomly, very quickly.

They are getting the minutes recently.... DJ, Hardy, Horne
& Brownlee are averaging 25+ minutes during the 4 BE games.

Everyone else is averaging under 20 min/game.

I cant complain about the minutes given. Hardy & Brownlee are getting starter minutes off the bench.

I didnt see the game last night, so cant comment on substitution patterns, but

Burrell zero rebounds in 21 min and Dele zero rebs and 4 fouls in 13 min ?
Norm has properly cut JB1's minutes recently. He's been in a funk.

DJ got 6 points late in the Louisville game when we were fouling and Louisville was letting us take layups.

Just because you are scoring points does not mean you are helping your team win. IMO DJ is selfish He dribbles the ball way to much and kills offencive flow. He never passes the ball into the post to Justin. How many time has Justin set a pic for him popped out and DJ never passes him the ball. He just dribbles dribbles dribbles.

DJ wants to be the man win or loose.

If you have a complaint about DJ not passing to Justin Burrell enough, that's fine, but he is NOT selfish.  He's averaging around 5-6 assists a game.  As a forward.  Who else do you want on the floor besides DJ?

Thats been Justin's shortcoming. When he sets a pick, he's supposed to
roll to the basket (see David Lee). Justin hangs too much by the perimiter.
Thats why his rebounds and foul shots taken are way down and way too low.

Cincy was 0 for 12 from 3, shot 40 percent from the floor, and scored 50 points in the entire game, ten of them free throws. So did we really need to switch the defense? What would the zone have done, held them to 48 points?

Well, they made 7 baskets between them, so I'm going to guess 7 WIDE open easy dunks or less. Don Pardo, what do I win?

DJ is actually averaging 3.3 assist a game, he handles the ball 90% of the time and gets the most minutes.

I would like to see Mason Paris and Dwight eat into DJ's minutes. DJ is a stat stuffer I just don't see his stat production translating into making the team better.

My take on your comment is .its true....BUT.....the reason for that is when he does roll to the basket, they don't throw it in. This team seems not willing to do the number one thing in basketball......pass it towards the basket!!! So the only thing let for him to do is get away from basket as there is ZERO inside passing. They don't even lay it off inside when they are driving. If you watch the games closely you will see this.

Stephenson’s head coach Mick Cronin actually blamed the loss on his junior forward Rashad Bishop, who made a long pass the possession before that was stolen by the Red Storm. Basically, they should have gotten the ball inbounds and St. Johns would have had to foul, but that didn’t happen. Cronin said they don’t even practice that play.

yes and that means they were 20-35 (57%) from inside the arc. normally, zone forces you to shoot from the outside, even you have to like those percentages.
