If anybody questions Boothe again after the 15 point debacle at home to Providence in his absence, they need to have their heads checked.

Take it easy Coach Wooden...

Say what ever you like, Boothe is not a starter in this league and never was. He brings ZERO to the offensive end and is nothing more than adequate defensively.

To be honest, I don't think Omari could do much worse but the major drawback would be that he couldn't handle the position defensively.

I have to disagree. Lawrence is averaging less than 10 mins a game but is fourth on this in team steals.  1 steal less than Booth.  I think he playes tough D, He is longer,  and is more athletic.
The phrase perfect storm refers to the a simultaneous occurrence of events which, taken individually, would be far less powerful than the result of their chance combination. Such occurrences are, by their very nature, rare, and so even a slight change in any one event contributing to a ‘perfect storm’ would be sufficient to lessen the overall power of the final event.

He doesn't have the lateral quickness to cover a PG however thats doesn't mean he can't play PG offensively. You could always stick Horne on the opposing PG but overall Omari just isn't quick enough to handle that assignment.

I never once claimed he was.  Not ONCE.  After six years we still don't have two guys that can handle the ball.  Who do you suggest we play at point, Boeheim?  We have absoutely NOBODY.  Boothe's shot is pitiful.  He doesn't create nearly enough in the half court, but he can bring the ball up the court without a problem. Thta is something nbody else can do on this roter.

I watched Boothe in high school and thought he would become a gutsy point guard who would be a sparkplug on offense and wreak havoc on defense. I've seen flashes of this now and then and he's made some crucial fouls shots this year to put us in the W column - but - I've been to four of our games so far this season and focused on MB each time. IMO he looks worse than he did in high school running an offense, his shooting is nonexistent and when he guards a fast opponent he is a major liability on defense.

He can bring the ball up all right but with monotonous regularity eats up half the clock before passing it ineffectually to someone else in the back court or stumbling into a turnover when taking it the hoop. A point guard is supposed to make things happen.

I would start Stith who in some ways is better than Boothe already and bring in Hardy and Lawrence at the point - using Boothe when we have to break a press or need another ball handler to make sure we get the damn thing over the midcourt line in 10 seconds.

^ I agree.  He's made very little improvement since HS.

who on the team has? the complete lack of development has to be on the coach.

To be fair, Evans, Horne and Kennedy have all made tremendous strides under coach.  That however doesn't negate the fact that Burrell, Boothe and Coker have not.

I'll give you DJ.  Evans and Horne have regressed from soph to junior year.

When Evans and Horne stepped onto this campus, you would not have been able to convince me that they could be anywhere near capable Big East players.  They still have a long way to go, but can anyone honestly tell me that they thought Paris Horne or Sean Evans would ever average double figures for us when you first saw them as freshmen?

It's all about opportunity.....they got it when Mason  and Burrell were dinged up

I actually think Stith might be alright when it comes down to it, hes a freshman. Anyways, it looks like he'll be battling this kid Grace for the job when Boothe is gone

I agree with this statement.

Boothe is absolutely atrocious, EVERY single time he's on the court we're basically playing a 5 on 4, or 4 on 5.  That Georgetown game made it perfectly clear how much of a waste of space.  Chris Wright abused him in every way imaginable.  If you can't bring anything to the offense, you'd better make sure you do whatever it takes on the defensive end.

Stith has definitely showed me something in his limited playing time, I'd love to see him get some more minutes although he's a Fresh.... Same with Omari, even though I haven't seen much from him he needs to get PT somehow and can't be that much worse than Boothe.

I'd like to see further comments on the point guard situation in light of what unfolds against De Paul today. Let's see who's right and who's wrong in all of this according to what we see in this game.

based on the one game i saw him play, grace starts as a freshman.  he's already way better than stith.

I think Omari gives us more than most believe.  I'm actually pretty excited about him because he doesn't have a glaring weakness outside of mabye just being an average athlete.  He can board lilke a beast and he has passing ability with a decent handle.  He really reminds me of the kinda guys we had under Jarvis that can do a little bit of everything.  He's tough.

Stith is just not ready right now, but he needs to see 5-10 mins because he does make things happen with his quickness.  The game moves faster with him in, but he needs a lot of work.

The soph year will be HUGE for theses kids.  I think Omari could be a fan favorite before all is said and done.

I like Omari a lot. He actually reminds me a lot of DJ Kennedy. As a freshman DJ would try and get to the hole way too much and forced it a bit and Omari is the same way. I think Omari is a very good rebounder and he makes some nice passes.

I actually agree with you in regards to Omari. He will be a very good player in his 4 years.  Somewhere between a Reggie Jessie and Lavor Postell.  Hoping closer to Postell :).  Big test for out PGs against Kemba and Dyson. Little frightened for them.

LOL that Reggie Jesse/Lavor Postell spectrum is exactly where I saw it too.  Reggie could really do a little bit of everything, but wasn't a scorer.  He just didn't have a knack for putting the ball in the basket.  I think Omari looks for his shot a lot more and can get to the basket better.  I'm hoping for more of a Lavor/Artest type :) but he is two inches shorter.

I'm happy with Omari getting ten mins a game now.  It will mean everything next year and especially in two years when he will be the man.
