was at the game...havent seen a crowd so electric since last game of the year to get to the BE Tourney against Rutgers when I was a freshman...ppl packed to the rafters..student section loud and into it...

Quincy Douby went off for like 35+ that day and broke my heart. Had nightmares that Dumbo Hazell would do the same tonight. When we got off to a 6-0 start and then he went down for the count, I thought there was no way we could lose........

...but then I remembered Norm Roberts is our coach, we don't have a player who wants to step up and be the man (DJ), and THIS IS ST JOHNS.

This is who we are. We will never return to the glory days. Hell, we can't even make that next step to mediocrity. What more does Norm want? What more do these players want? 2 wins and this fan base (for the most part) went from rooting for them to lose and chanting for the coach to be fired, to packing CA and believing we could make a statement. I walked into CA tonight and was genuinely pumped up. This is what college bball is all about. For once, a REAL homecourt advantage. Idk if any1 else noticed this, but after the national anthem, we have a tradition of going to shake the other teams hands. DJ, Boothe, Evans and Horne all walked straight to the bench with thier heads down. DJ and Malik were jawing it up early and after DJ hit his first shot and we went up 6-0, I thought we were locked in and ready to make that statement. Well I couldnt have been more wrong. Nothing went right after that and this is no excuse, but the excessive stoppages for official review and blood clean up def didnt help. it took the air out of the arena and we lost any momentum we had. but that doesnt matter, it came down to SH's role players hitting shots, while our "best" players couldnt drop the ball in the basket from 2 ft away.

I'm glad to see DJ take blame for the loss in the postgame. And as long as hes not suspended, this supposed "fight" at least shows he cares.

As for the student section, idc what the admin or Redzone losers say. u rly gotta get the fire roberts chants going. free throws during garbage mins is a great time. something needs to be done. no more feeling sorry for the players. you guys showed up tonight, we all showed up tonight, fans/alum included, and the PLAYERS let us down.

i agree with dave, i've never been so embarassed to be a STJ fan. theres no excuses left. and i really am losing faith that we will ever be relevant again.

"This is one of my favorite wins of my lifetime," Pirates coach Bobby Gonzalez said. "We beat Florida in the NCAAs when I was at Manhattan. We beat Louisville here against Rick Pitino, an idol of mine. But this ranks up there. We got 15 wins and are tied for eighth in the conference. It was our first road win. There were so many things. We proved we could play without Jeremy (Hazell) and Eugene (Harvey). We won a game at Carnesecca Arena over a metropolitan area rival. This was big.
This was special. They'll remember this for a long time."

Right on all points. His team was playing without 2 key men.
But instead of crying about it like we do, they manned up, and smacked across the face.

Wow. What a quote, Jesus.

Theo,

Do you have a picture of you with the bag on? Did security or a priest give you a hard time?

Just got home some thoughts..
1. Everyone can blame Norm all they want, we lost this game because our guys cant hit WIDE open shots. Paris missed 3 layups/dunks. DJ and Mase missed 5/6 combined from inside 12 feet. Burell missed 3 layups.
2. Hardy does nothing to get open. I could guard him. They tried a few times to get him open, but he is very very SLOW coming off screens. He looked like he was in slowmotion.
3. We had a great crowd- Best I have seen in a very long time. Crowd was into early. Not much to cheer about later on.
4. Played Excellent defense early. 2nd half not so much.
5. Either Brownlee is a bad kid (which I dont think) or they ruined him. He played a few minutes in 1st half. Took an awful shot missed by about 3 feet. He looked like he was sulking on the bench. We could have used him today.
6. dele, omari, and rob thomas all played for less then 2 minutes at different times- there was no reason to put them in and no reason to take them out.

i agree with all of this.. Just didnt seem to be Djs nite everything going in an out

We're 2 away from tying having the most users on at once. I'm kind of sad that happens because of a loss like this. Also 54 guests.....register....start posting.

Wow, that's awesome. But as you said, too bad it's not after we win :(
At least there's not 50 new threads by Mary Lack calling for Norm to be fired.

I don't start too many fire norm threads.  I prefer to post about you now.  Maybe you should take the kids to Cucky-E-Cheese today to lift their spirits, RSHF?  You and your friend Norm can hire a clown, get some pizza, and give the kids a ton of tokens to plays games.

My only suggestion would be to keep them away from the basketball-shooting game. It might hurt their confidence when they miss--especially if the children there joke around with them and play a zone defense.

I mean, it's like Norm said "Nobody died today. That's it. It was a basketball game. Move on."

10 ......heck 18 shots per game......he is number one on the team in shooting %. And not 18 minutes a game but 35......course he needs to quit picking up fouls even if Coach woke up. Not starting Burrell is the craziest thing ever. That's criminal.

WE LAYED AN EGG!

Juice in the building.  Amped, large crowd of interested onlookers itching to be turned into fans. Our 5000 persons were matching the volume and intensity of their 200.

Then we shat our pants.

Reminded me of the "Douby Debacle" a couple of seasons ago.

Even more dissapointing than the PC game.

Are we going to go 1 - 3 in conference games at Alumni?
